I haven't posted much on here recently as I haven't had that much to talk about, but some of you will remember ze boy Doyle.. my 5 year old that I bought to bring on to event..

After struggling for a few months with mysterious ridden symptoms, many vet visits and endless conversations with the vets, we returned from Newmarket AHT on Friday with the sad news that Doyle will be unable to do anything.. possibly hack at a push. Turns out he's been suffering from severe sacroiliac joint damage, probably from before we bought him.

I made the hard decision to have him put down on Monday. He would never be a hack - he was a competition horse through and through.

Thought it would be nice to see how far he progressed in a year:
From being a very green, immature, babyish and sometimes very difficult just broken 5yo:

All the time showing off how gorgeous he was..

Everything about him made me so excited about his future:

We managed 2 teamchases, a few events and lots of training where we both learnt lots, but Doyle also taught me what its like to sit on an amazing horse. I don't think I will have another that makes me so excited for the future. He really was something special.

This was our last ride last weekend:

Sorry for the soppy post, but I didn't really know how else to put it.

I'm not looking forward to going home to the empty stable.

On another note, I cannot afford to buy another horse, but cannot imagine being without something for a long time, and am thinking of finding a event schoolmaster type (Novice or similar standard) to loan to compete. Is it possible to find this sort of thing? And how do people go about doing it? Or am I dreaming of something that doesn't ever come about??

Tea and biscuits if you made it through all of that.

Very brave - what a handsome horse. I think it's you who needs the tea and biscuits, not us lot. I think you'll find something, I hope so :).

Last March I had my five year old PTS I had only had him ten months. Sacroiliac also shot to pieces. He was a cob, and the vets said it was definatley there when I got him, I only rode him for seven months. One of the worst cases she had seen.

Oh, I am so sorry you had to make such a heart breaking decision. I am sure you will find something. I don't know where you are in the country but I may know of something in Wiltshire. xx

What a sad sad waste of a beautiful talented horse. My heart goes out to you :(

Maybe think about an ex racer to bring on, even if it's to later sell. It looks like you could give a TB a real chance of a lifetime.

How sad, but the right decision.

Whereabouts are you based? There are loads of people who have horses they'd love for someone else to bring on & compete - I have two out on loan myself to excellent riders. I pay costs like shoes, ins, vet & registrations etc. They keep them & don't charge to ride them. They are nice talented horses so a good arrangement all round.

So sorry to read your story, what a beautiful horse and a lucky one to have an owner brave enough to make the right decision. Good luck finding your next one.

Very sorry for your loss.

I am sure you will find a loan horse to compete. Only yesterday my blacksmith asked me my plans for my mare this summer. I said if someone was all signed up to event and than had a lame horse I would love her to go eventing again. So they will be other people out there the same.
