A sad update from me..

So sad :( I'm so sorry for your loss - he looked a fab horse.
It is definitely possible to loan a competition horse, but they are just difficult to find. Where are you based? I'm currently looking for a competition rider to share my boy. My sister dressages but doesn't do jumping, he's is too talented to waste on dressage! To find someone who wants to event/SJ him would be perfect for us! So they are out there!!

I am so sorry for your loss..... I too lost a very young horse that was amazingly talented and could, I think, have taken me very far......It makes it feel worse I think! Mourning for them and what might have been.....

He was a beauty, again am so sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear your tragic news about your beautiful boy. I can't begin to imagine how you must be feeling but you are so brave and take comfort in the fact you got to share some wonderful times with such an amazing and talented horse. Some things are just not meant to be .RIP Doyle

Oh you poor poor thing, he was absolutely stunning and looked like he had pots of potential. I had to make the same choice a few years ago, again a sacroiliac injury. It was incredibly hard but again similar he was never going to be a hack. You have done the right thing and done the best by your beautiful horse.

I think the racehorse idea is a great one, there are so many talented TBs looking for a lucky break and it looks like you could offer a fantastic home. Good luck whatever you decide to do and make sure you keep us in the loop.

xx

Thank you everyone for such lovely comments. They are very much appreciated.

For those that asked where I am based, I am in Leicestershire.
I shall have a think about all the ideas that have been suggested, thank you all.

Just wanted to say that I feel your pain. I too have been there (stunning 8yo who was diagnosed at the AHT with severe arthritic changes to his SIs and along his spine) and made the same brave, but correct decision. If only you were a little closer - I have an 18yo who has novice evented getting bored in the field. He feels more like a 3yo every time I get on him and he'd love to be out and 'doing'!

Good luck finding something else.
