For those of you that don't know me or Jo on facebook i just wanted to give you an update.

Unfortunately Gem's foal died on Tuesday night, it was 2 days old. It was premature but appeared healthy. The vet has since done some tests and seems to think the foal was just not developed enough internally to survive.

Gem was taken yesterday to be a surrogate mum to a foal that has lost it's mum so we are now just hoping that Gem takes to the foal. She is being slowly introduced but so far everything is going to plan.

It has all been rather horrible and even more so for the lady that has Gem on loan as she had to deal with it all.

RIP little girl

RIP baby

What a lovely idea about being a surrogate mum!

Oh God. How awful

I saw Jo's f/b status but just didn't know what to say. I hope she's OK.

~~~~VIBES and HUGS~~~~ to all involved.
What a really horrible time but really unselfish to allow the mare to be a surrogate.
Fingers and hooves crossed at my end and (hugs)
Hi Gina, i was wondering when you or Jo would post.
Am glad Gem can be surrogate to another baby, just very sad that she has lost her own.
Was she very early?
Thanks everyone.
She was about 8 weeks early - she was due at the end of April and was showing no signs when the foal came along. She did start producing milk and the foal was feeding fine.
We didn't get to see it which i'm quite sad about (we were planning on visting tomorrow) but the owner did get some pictures so i'm hoping she will send them to me. I'm sure it will start all the tears again but i did really want to see it.
OH I am so sorry - thats terrible news.
I hope Gem will take to being a surrogate Mum, it would make the loss easier to cope with knowing something good had come out of such sadness.
My thoughts are with you.
I am so sorry to hear this and I do hope she bonds to the other foal. My mare had to be pts a week after following last year and the mare we found was bonded with her within a few hours - we were very lucky, this mare wanted a foal as much as Willow needed a mum.
Good on you and the loaner doing this for them.
So sorry to hear that, lets hope your mare takes to this other baby and there is a happy ending there, finger crossed.
RIP little one, sleep well.
Thanks all (for those who don’t know I’m Gina’s sister). I spoke to the foal’s owner today and she must have said at least ten times, thank you so much for letting us borrow Gem. Gem is already in the stable with the foal but they are separate by straw bales at the moment, all seems to be going well though! Oh and the foal Gem is surrogate for is a future race horse, how cool is that!!??
RIP little chestnut one…..
Hugs to all involved.
I hope it all works out for Gem and the surrogate foal, so sorry to read about the loss of Gem's foal. I have my fingers crossed for the surrogate foal.
Aww poor little baby
, and poor Gem. Sometimes mares take it really hard when they lose their foals, so it's nice that she has gone to be a foster mum. I hope she deals with that well.
