I have a Wintec 2000 that was bought about 10 years ago, used for 2 years then sat in a nice dry tack room for the last 8 years. I got it out last weekend as it fits my new horse and gave it a spruce up, no real mucky bits just a small amount of white mould (I presume mould) on the girth straps, which are the only leather bit. Saddle soaped (not too wet) and applied a bit of leather dressing and the left girth straps are now encrusted with white powdery mould that will not shift! The right straps are fine and I treated both sides the same. So this morning I have tried brushing it off, washing it off, saddle soap and even washing soda and everytime it dries it is still there! I don't want to end up annihilating the leather. Any ideas for how I can get it off would be much appreciated!

I was always told the white 'mould' was the leather protecting itself. All we did was get a dry sponge with saddle soap on it and wipe it off until it was going to get cleaned again. Not sure why yours isn't coming off!

I don't think so kirstykate, it looks similar but the saddle has sat in a nice dry tack room for the past 8 years and the girth straps wouldn't have touched the horse at all. Also it's only the one side. I am puzzled!
