A sheep or goat for company?

Shock horror at all the bad experiences you all have with goats, I have had goats for more than 15 years and adore them, never been butted, never tried to escape, they follow me around like a dog, love company and cuddles, they do act like marmite when I have visitors they either love the visitor or hate them

A friend has just sent me this link, she volunteers at this ranch and believes I should start classes for yoga with my goats

My sheep, horses and goats all out of choice keep to their own groups although the sheep and goats often wander off together, apart from climbing up to look over the stable door to find out what I am doing the goats aren't that bothered if the horses live there or not, I have only had one goat many years ago who loved hanging out with the horses but he also liked jumping into a wheelbarrow for a ride around the yard too

Oh my goodness Kevin is adorable just look at that face, his horns look as if they will grow beautifully in unison, the one in the background looks so much like the one I talk of jumping in the wheelbarrow, his name was Bart.

I keep my Shetlands with Blackie sheep (with lambs at the mo) and Highland cattle and all get on fine but I wouldn't say they considered each other to be friends Unless they were reared together I wouldn't keep a single pony/horse with a single sheep or goat (although there will always be exceptions to the rule where it works). I would look at getting a mini Shetland for a friend if I were in your position.

As another poster said, there are rules and regulations about keeping sheep and goats. And sheep do need shearing, and their feet need a lot of attention.

In the foot and mouth I remember that there were DEFRA staff scouring the countryside for people with a few sheep or goats in a paddock that hadn't got any paperwork, so I think that has been tightened up now.

I think Pygmy goats are hard work indeed. We had an Anglo Nubian Goat, Kayley , She was just super, a real sweetie, no naughty stuff just a pleasure to be with. As someone else said they are browsers not grazers, everything was trimmed to Kayley height. Do not expect flowers in the garden, they love those. She loved a fuss and a groom and to be milked. She often would come into milk , even without a kid. We would milk her, while she stood for us and the pony would drink it. They need shelter and lots of attention.
I would just stick the mare in the stable, with plenty of food and a mirror.

we always thought we had good fencing till we got our satan goats. if they even got something to move a centimetre they would jam themselves in. we kept adding more and mor elayers to our fencing, and they just seemed to enjoy the challenge. they we changed to electric fencing, and they actually enjoyed getting shocked

I feel so lucky with my goats, I would need smelling salts if I found mine like that, the blue one is very ingenious using the tri coloured one as a ladder,
I wonder where they are trying to get to, I can't work out if they are on their way out or on their way back from somewhere
I need to set up a boot camp for training wayward goats as this thread is quite an eye opener for me
