A sign of insanity

I always tell Manni to "have a good day" when I turn him out in the morning. And when I put him to bed I say 'night night'.

As to the girl who talks her horse round the sj course, it's probably a security thing for her, talking her way round the course remembering her instructions from when she walked the course.

We used to see a young girl out at pony bs who used to talk to her pony (who was called silly sausage). She used to say "come on sausage, you can do it, I know you can, do it for me, I love you so much, you're such a good boy, come on sausage, we can do it together". So sweet - again, a confidence thing I think.
 
I'm terrible for this... "Be good, enjoy yourselves today - no funny business you, I've got my eye on you..." :cool:

I'm also terrible for scrambling round courses of jumps providing my own commentary... "Come on, where's number one, seen it, on you go then, goooood lad, pick it up we've got to find number two, steady, go on, gooooood boy, yes number 3's a bit bigger, go on, we can, yes we CAN do this GOOOOOOD boy..."

It's embarassing really...
 
My boy recently had bad scrapes and cuts on his legs and I caught myself telling him he was a 'very brave soldier' as I cleaned him up! (He was to).
He just looked at me in despair!!!!

I do it all the time! When we were changing the poultice on our 6 month old foal I kept telling him what a brave soldier and what a good boy he was, I always ask them if they've had a good day and tell them to be good before I leave!
 
I often ask Tont if he's warm enough, and then what rug he wants on :p

I moan at him for spitting out his tea, and every night I say "now you be a good boy and I'll see you tomorrow" :p

I haven't quite got to clicking at people yet though :D
 
I quite often tell Big White horse to 'get a grip' or 'don't sit on people' if she's being ab arse out hacking. I shout at the TV, self service machines in shops, cars/people in cars, i definitely click at people...oh, and i always ask my horses if they are alright and how are they doing...not in a straitjacket yet...

I train people handling and did a series of clicking whilst guiding a delegate backwards.She just looked at me.
Must admit did apologise once I realised what I had done.
 
I talk to mine all the time. Beau is often begged as we enter the SJ ring, 'please don't drop mommy!' or 'look after mommy pleeease' when I get it wrong and she sorts it all out I tell her I'm soo sorry or thank you. If she looks at a jump and I kick her or tap her down the shoulder, apparently I apologise to her for smacking her as we do the next couple of jumps!

Sonic and I argue as we go round, he's too damn strong and ill disciplined (not my bad and I'm working on it) but he's too big for me to 'control' we need to work together. I sing to him, Twinkle twinkle and various christmas songs seem to work best.

Us at SJ is basically me singing Twinkle Twinkle, interspersed with 'good boy' 'slow down', 'enoouugh' and 'Soniiic' as he bogs off to the gate. Last time we went jumping I got stuck at the gate having a full blown chat with him begging him to come away from the gate and just jump one more fence. Nothing works. If I smack him, he goes ballistic, the only solution is to get off when he explodes and in the ring, that eliminates me and doesn't acheive much for next time. I wanted to withdraw and jump one fence. Pleading worked though, we jumped (well, crashed through ina temper) one more fence!

Disclaimer he has been seen by vet, physio/mctimoney/dentist/saddler all that remains to explore is psychologist/therapy!!
 
I always talk to my two nags and at home often have long conversations with the cat. I have even been known to talk my mums cat on the phone! :eek:
 
I assumed that everyone talked to their horses as though they understood English :confused: :p I too have patted my husband if he's done something well. He doesn't seem to mind. My daughter will quicken her pace if I click which can actually be useful when I am trying to get her to hurry up and get ready for college.

My worst fault is talking to things on shelves in shops e.g. "You're a lovely kettle aren't you"? I caught a man nudging his wife when I said that in House of Fraser last week :o I spend hours and hours alone in the house so I think that talking to myself has become normal, well normal for me anyway.
 
I came on to the yard this morning saying 'hey babes, is it breakfast time is it?' to my whinnying horse'

Unfortunately I didn't realise the guys doing the fencing were around the other side of the stables :o They replied 'sure is love, two bacon sarnies and a cuppa please!'

I'm always clicking at my car when overtaking, and sometimes even pat 'her' wheel! :rolleyes:
 
I always talk to PI like he's a kid - " will you STOP playing with your food and just eat it properly!!:D

When i check out the ponies in the morning and little Beau always comes up to say hello I usually say something like " hi little fella , whats on today then? As if i'm expecting a reply like - Oh you know same old route round the field , kip at 11 ish - the usual..:rolleyes:

I have done this often to my own daughter while coming upto or crossing a road its '' Now walk on " or "and stand" she replies with "Mum im not a horse". Its been said before I realise. Love talking to the horses, they cant talk back :p
 
I've sat here in work in stitches reading this it's brill,

I was very guilty of this when i had my horse i used to talk to her all the time bear in mind i still talk to my JRT all the time he just looked at me like i've had one to many knocks to the head and belong in a mental asylum xx
 
Oh I'm so glad its not just me then! I talk to the horses, my cat, the animals at work, my car, anything really! I can have full blown conversations with them :o
My co-workers think I'm insane!

On monday I was training some new people and I think they must of been so confused as I kept talking to the animals and must of left thinking I was a right nutcase!

Quite often my OH gets home and hears me talking so he thinks somebody is here or I'm on the phone but normally I'm just chatting away to the cat! I always like to ask all the animals how their day was! Be rude not to!
 
I'm another one for the loony bin. I'm a teacher and find myself talking to my horse as if he were one of my pupils on a daily basis. Yesterday he was a bit rude about not wanting to move away from the door when I went into his stable and I found myself saying 'your behaviour is totally unacceptable, you need to carefully consider your options and make the right choice before going any further'! All said in a very stren teacherly voice of course which prompted the other livery to ask if everything was 'alright in there' - I think that translated roughly to 'have you totally lost the plot?'
 
Me too!This week alone,I have told her I wont let the other horses at the gate hurt her, that the bucket had yummy melon,not nasty parsnips in it,and that she wont get a gate snack if I have to go get her instead of her coming over.The worst thing is, I do expect her to understand :o.It's working though,she came right over to the gate tonight.....

Oh Snowy, that's great :D You're not alone - I apologise to things if I decide not to buy them and tell them that it isn't their fault :eek: I have also been known to thank household implements for their services :o Thanks Mr Kettle, that cup of tea is just what I wanted"... You have to wonder...
 
I thought everyone talked the their horses and general animals. One of the horses at work is stupidly spooky out hacking on his own so I talk him through each step, whats coming up etc. I also talk my horse around showjumps, more for myself than him. It helps me to concerntrate and if people laugh at me for doing it,it makes me feel better. Also talk to my car and dogs. when I was younger I had a rat and she used to hear my life stories

Glad it's not just me that chats to my horses though! I always tell them to "sleep well" at night, plus very often tell them what I fancy doing in our rides, whether they like the sound of a hack/jump etc (they've never said no yet, so I just plough on with my plans!), plus a few other bits of nonsense. Not caught myself talking to kettle yet though ;)

But my horse does reply! :D

I had given her a proper groom the night before and after turning out in the morning she rolled right in the muddy gateway. Now bearing in mind that her mane is mostly over 18 inches long she was filthy with 'mudlocks'. :eek:

I told her she was a 'dirty horrible pony' as she sauntered away from me. Then I added 'it's alright, it just means I'll have to scrub you again later'.

Well never in my life have I had such a disgusted look. She turned her head to stare at me as if to say 'WHAT?! S**t! I didn't think that through.'. Her timing was perfect. I'm sure she knew what I'd said and she wasn't impressed. :cool:

I'm certifiable I know :o
