hey!

im very glad i can come on here and ask for advice, ive had so much help with all my problems and very greatful!!

so... today i got back from my hack and afer untacking Ollie i notived two bold patched an inch or two up from th crease of his mouth. the bit im using is a french link hanging cheek and he has been fine in it. but it looks like where the smaller hoop higher up on the cheek pieces lie it has been rubbing. the bit itself fits fine in his mouth and looks right, but these bold patches look like its rubbed. all the coat has gone, a bit smaller than a 10p on each side. i hadnt noticed it before as his coat hides it.

i cant ride him in that again... so need to change it but not sure what too?? i dont want to go stronger on his mouth or less... i dont want less as he has the odd spirt and decided to charge home and takes me a lot, a very lot lol, to stop him. so dont want to go for just a plain snaffle as ill have less control??!

but dont want to but a harsh on in there either? im new to all this and still learning, i know very little about bits etc.

any advice would be great. im glad i noticed it, poor boy. when i went to touch it he moved his head away and didnt like it so must be sore, but not bleeding.

should i not ride him until it heals and try a new bit?? or just try a new bit and he be ok?

advice plitty please, thank you!!

Are u sure the bit is not a size too small? I've used hanging snaffles with various mouthpieces on several ponies and never seen this problem. Unless you are using a flash noseband and skin pinched slightly between bit and noseband?

I'd leave the riding till its healed. As said it could be too short & pinching. Get your instructor to have a look too. And maybe try bit rubbers with next size up.
Another thought is could it be the bottom of the cheek pieces rubbing where they attach to the bit? Either because there's something rough on them or they have dried on sweat or something?

OK, how long do you think ill be looking at for it to heal? I think maybe your right and the next size up with rubbers might work.

I keep my bridle clean, s dont think anything rubbing thats on it, however you saying that has made me think the bridle all looks fine, but where his like um... cheek bones are they protude a rather lot and bridle maybe looks tight on him... not sure.

i think ill put his bridle on tomorrow and look at where is could be rubbing and how it could be happening. the lady i bought him off had rubber things on the bit, so many something like this has happened before.

thanks you for your advice !! :) x
