Here it is... Three days late
~
Got to the yard with 10 minutes to spare, threw my stuff on, and went to help tack up Dawi. He stood nice and still for me as I threw his boots on, and off we went to the indoor for my group lesson
He was a good lad, didnt bugger off when I put him next to the mounting block, but stood there and waited for me
On I hopped, sorted out my stirrups and girth, and started walking him 'round.
I LOVE his paces! His walk can be a bit lethargic, but once he's marching on he loves it
And his trot... It's something else entirely! So bouncy you are thrown out of the saddle, but when he's got enough impulsion its wonderful!
Got my diagonals wrong a bit more than I'd like, but got on ok. We were all working on our own 'plans' for the horses - for D-man it was making sure he DID NOT FOLLOW THE HORSE IN FRONT, working in open order, and keeping him interested and forward with lots of circles and transitions and changes of rein.
Eventually I was told I could canter... Now, I do struggle cantering Dawi, as I REALLY find it hard to sit to his trot
But I was pleasantly surprised, and got at least one really nice, decently paced canter out of him on both reins
Throughout the lesson, I mainly struggled with keeping him interested, and getting him to STOP FOLLOWING! He did try hard though, and I discovered something about him... He responds to praise so well! A little pat on the withers, or a 'good lad!' really seemed to communicate that he'd done well
Eventually, we walked them off, and I went and put him back in his stable and untacked. Id just popped his stable rug on, when I slipped my arm around his neck for a hug... And he leaned into me
I stood there for about 10 minutes, my face buried in his neck, him resting on my shoulder, just breathing in and out... Ive not had that connection with him before!
All in all, a pretty good lesson
As always, thank you for reading!

(Then I headed home early to get ready for the gig... Now THATS a whole 'nother story!)
