Well I have always not liked hacking Frankie out where he's kept, because the hacking is absolute rubbish - its like riding around a busy town

except there are a lot more lorries around here as well

but after a few weeks ago where Frankie galloped down the road with me because some ponies where having a party in a field

I am even more hating it. As soon as I walk down the yard drive I can feel butterflies and start to get very tense

which in turn makes sensitive Frankie even more spooky - and as we don't get out much he seems to enjoy it as well

anyway at the weekend I kind of broke down in front of a woman at the yard - told her all my worries, cried, and managed to sort something out with the YM for her to come out with me on her steed to hold my hand

but thats not until the weekend after this weekend as I'm away this weekend

So went to ride Frankie tonight, in the school as per usual on a weekday. There was already two people in the school (20x40) and one of the people in there was a small child, on her pony which apparently kicks everything

her mother was uming and ahhing about me going in when i was just like 'oh not to worry I'll just hack out'
shocked.gif
didn't even think about it

so hacked out, only for about 20 minutes - walking around the estate - up and down the same road once or twice and generally scared half to death

Frankie was looking everywhere, head in the air, taking small steps and generally being very uptight and excitable

I kept a steady contact (I really cannot relax when I'm hacking - at all!)

I wouldn't say it was a good ride - but I'm actually quite proud of myself lol

I just wish he was kept at a yard with better hacking - I wouldn't be as tense if we were walking through a field, or even on a country lane - its just the lorries and bikes etc that scare me!

because the road is quite big and busy, I have to ride on the pavement. People think that because I am on the pavement, I'm not there, so just drive past at 40/50moh

CRAP

sorry for the pointless post - but i think people should celebrate every achievement, no matter how small

Well done - if it helps defeat the nerves then there is nothing wrong in celebrating very step no matter how small you think it is

thanks bex!!

i was thinking last night that i could go out for a 20 minute walk around the roads either before or after a schooling sesh........so even though we might both be tense for 20 minutes we can have about 30/40 minutes where we are relaxed and in the school!

last night i could actually feel the both of us *sigh* and relax as soon as we turned into the driveway of the yard lol *my comfort zone!*

I know what you mean - sometimes I get so nervous out hacking I really do breathe a sigh of relief when I get back to the yard - but it does get better the more you do it. if you go after a schooling sesh he might be a bit more chilled too?

yeah thats what i thought.......he'd be knackered as well

and we could just go for a little walk up the road. I know I need to do it but I keep putting it off.......like buying tax for my car (runs out tomorrow oops!) so I am just going to bite the bullet and do it!

Fantastic!!! I am also in your situation - its v scary. Why apologise for what you think is a 'small' achievement? To you, its a huge achievement. Aim to get out - even just for 5 or 10 mins, as often as possible. Just build up very very slowly, so as not to dent your confidence.
Well done!
