Sorry i no this is really in the wrong place but hey!!

Most of you know song fell at Gatcombe cutting his Off fore knee quite badly!

Well he had the stitches out a few weeks ago and it was all looking great until the flap of skin had started to fall down! It was looking quite nasty a week later but was fine, I just came to the conclusion he will be left with a massive scar on his knee - not great for the few workers we do!

So anyway he was feeling very well last week with the dressings being changed every 3 day starting with a green cream as he had proud flesh forming, then last Thurs had Aloe Vera gel on it then on Sunday was on to his honey dressing. But when changing it Sunday before heading off to mount ballen it had bled quite a lot so cleaned it up and put the dressings on (hes got one on the front and one on the back as the tape holding the front on on rubbed!

)

So to last night - went over to do the boys and dad noticed he wasn't sound - vet said if hes not sound worry and as hes been 100% sound up until now! waited for mum to get home and then called out the vet. So at 8.30 the vet came out and poked and prodded around and Songy was very sore so gave him some drugs and took his temp and wow it was 39* so very high poor pony

So this morning mum said he still wasn't himself but sounder on it, so after last night another vet came out at 5 today to give him some more drugs and check his knee and ughhhh he had had an abscess in it which has now burst so hes so much happier to have it prodded! she cleaned it all out and then we flushed it with Saline much to song amusement as i needed to hands to do the saline bag so has holding him with my knees!! Lol and did his temp again and it was normal!!

So all in all pony's better now but still a long way off being ridden and considering the original prognosis was 4/5 weeks!! and were on week 5 now, i think its going to be a few months as the little scab on the other knee is just about healed and that was only a scratch compared to the other one!!

So some pics from the start up until tonight

Your poor pony

He must be feeling so much better now that the abcess has burst. Why can't things heal nicely? Loads of vibes it heals properly from now one.

Fortunately I've already eaten!!

Saw your original post when he did this, poor pony, but I bet he feels so much better now!

Wishing him a quick recovery from now on!

Poor pony! Knees are a nightmare and take ages to heal up. Bet he's much more comfortable now that the absess has burst.
Fingers crossed for him and lots of healing vibes!

Now that's burst he should start to heal quickly.
Layla has been left with two small bald patches right in the centre, but I reckon if I used a black non poisonous marker pen they would be nie invisible..
That knee should now start to heal from the inside out, hers looked very similar and now look almost normal.
Any chance you can find a spa to take him to?

Poor Song!! I had a pony once who had a similar injury, he fell into a ditch and had a deep puncture wound in his knee from a birch stick. It wouldn't have been too bad but the vet on the field came and stuck his mucky finger in the hole so it got really badly infected

. Anyway it took about 8 weeks for the infection to totally clear up. He was on intramuscular penstrep for about a month, and after going through bags of animalintex, I then used a hot bread poultice and I think this is what finally got rid of the infection. The pony recovered completely and went back to full work and competed in xc and sj and hunted again. He was never lame on the leg, although he did have a big knee for the rest of his life. All the best and hope he recovers well

Poor Song!
That must have been so sore - an abcess bursting out through newly healed skin. Hope he is feeling beter now it is "out".

Spa sounds like such a good idea.

Hugs from me.

Echo the Camrosa, and also use Aloe Gel internally, brilliant stuff
