He’s now 2 weeks post course of tablets to decrease his prostate size and is on fire.
He has improved so much.
He is just looking better but he also has so much more enthusiasm, to the point that if I’m getting ready to go out for a walk I have had to shut him away because he gos into over drive.
The others watch with quiet anticipation as I collect poo bags and treats and put on my coat etc
He now go’s a bit wild! So sits in the tack room until I’m sorted (aged 10!)

He seems very happy. Did beaters day and picked a few up, had Berts tagging on alongside, a very happy boy.

I understand the tablets only last 6 months and at that point the effects will probably wear off.
The advice had been to castrate at that point, I’m a bit concerned about that though and now believe it’s ok to just repeat the medication as required so we may just do that. 69265F0D-A2D2-42CB-808F-3F6523D5D0CF.jpeg188C7578-366A-4B9B-AA32-AAFD06F832AF.jpegC09ADE78-29C7-4DBA-B06E-0300A52E71ED.jpeg

He gets mud everywhere 😂 always manages a muddy face where the others just have dirty paws!

My lurcher was petrified at the vets and when her time came my vet came to my house and it was much better for her, not so much for my bank account though… I would do the same if any of my current dogs were unhappy at the vets, all of them love going there luckily

Yes I didn’t know this was a possibility, it was very unexpected. He was fine when I left for work one morning and very sick when I got home 3 hours later. We had no chance to arrange or even think other than for me to ask that we took him back to my car so he at least thought he was going home.

Two things, his age and GA is one.
The main thought is his absolute and utter terror of the vets.
I’d really struggle to leave him there because I know he is so frightened.

My bitch was sedated in the car and carried in. I then picked her up while she was still quite sleepy and they put her in the quarantine kennel so she didn’t have the stress of all the activity. She was 7 at the time and I also worried out GA. She was, and continues to be fine with no after effects.

I had a Lab bitch pts at home because she was petrified of being left at the vets, after having had to spend a weekend there. It cost me a fortune! During Covid we had to pts a Rottweiler, who wasn't keen on going to the vets, although not as bad as the Lab. She was always wary of having her temerature taken. Covid worked in our favour, as she was pts in the car by appointment.

OP, I would try to avoid a GA if possible at his age, although it is surprising how well older dogs often tolerate an operation.

Yeah I hear about older dogs having a general and being fine but if I can avoid it I will.

Doug was pts during covid and the vet basically said sod it.
Doug loved, like adored the vets, the one vet spoke to him like a loon and it was just so exciting 🥰😂 so it wasn’t an issue but they let me come in and be in the room as normal thank god
