A strange but helpful driver reaction!

Horse hasn’t been ridden for a week due to one thing or another, today we decided to make the most of the weather and newly repaired saddle. Off we jollied down the road. I heard a car coming pretty fast round the corner but the horse is really good with traffic... except this car! He slammed the brakes on and turned for home. Completely refusing to take a step closer.
The driver jumped out, (I thought for a minute was going to try and lead him past ?)
Locked the car, still stationary in the middle of the road and just walked off. ?‍
Anyhow, took the opportunity to be able to get him past, to be fair didn’t take ages but wound have been quite stressful with a driver sat glaring at me!
Met said driver a good way down the road, he commented he just thought he’d give me time as the horse looked nervous!
Not sure what would have happened if another car came along, they couldn’t have passed!
The car had a roof box, this is the only thing I can think that might have been scary!

That was so thoughtful towards you if not other drivers. It is harder to do anything even slightly challenging with someone watching in my experience

Exactly, I was able to give him a bit of time to look and think about what I was asking rather than having to really get heavy handed and force him past.
I thanked him profusely of course!

That is strange! It's a good job there were no other cars! ?

We sometimes get drivers who see us and do an about turn to go round the block the other way here! Which is very nice but definitely a little odd as there are plenty of passing places and we can see cars coming from a long way off so can usually organise ourselves not to cause any major delays for anyone.
