If you had a field which 1 day you walked up, the next day you trotted the third day you cantered and then the next day you walked, next day trotted, next day cantered, next day walked etc (I'm sure you get the picture!) would your horse learn which day it was to do which gate??

sorry- its a bit random

Mine would...i guess its just a matter of how clever they are.

But i dont know really...but doing this is a good idea anyway because it teaches them they dont always canter/trot at one point of a hack

Erm, probably not, unless it could tell through vibes coming through your seat/position.
My horse anticipates thing's we do in the school and on the lunge, but not to that extent!

Yes, it could. If you repeat the same pattern often enough you are effectively training the horse how to do it. A bit like showjumping, many horses know the second round is the jump off. Or a horse waiting at the gate to come in at 5 oclock for its dinner. Or out hacking you halt when a car comes, so when they hear a car they halt themselves

When we had horses that came to call we worked them 6 days a week, if you called on a saturday, their day off, they wouldn't come over! Just would look at you like "Fcuk you mum"

TBH I think it was only the one of 4 who knew
