A thread that hasnt been done before! How much did you pay for your horse and....

I paid £500 for Lucy inclu all tack and rugs In the end she was priceless,
I paid £550 for the horrid one inclu all tack and rugs and Merryn was free now they are both pricless to me to. It doesn't matter how much they are worth now as they are with me for life ;) :D :D :D :D

I paid £2500 for my cob in 2007, probably a bit naive as he was a very green 5 year old! Now I would think he is worth about £5000 as he has done everything and you could put your granny on him!
The mare I paid £800 for in 2009, would think she is now worth about £2000 as she has again done everything and you can hunt her in a snaffle. She has a fab pop in her and if she was a little bigger I would have said she'd make a great little event pony.

TBX 16.1hh gelding @ 18yrs (were told he was 12) £1 6years later he was still worth the investment lmao!!!

TB 15.3hh mare @ 7 yrs £1500 3year later, she is still a diamond we don't click ridden wise but she is such a pleasure to have around (she is currently on loan in foal)

i have a 17.2hh IDx (ex hunter) i bought him for £750, he's now still only worth approx £1000. if i had bought him before his injury then he would have been priced at £8000.

12.2hh cob x 3yrs old, paid £75 for him, now worth between £300 and £450 (from what people have said).

12.2hh dartmoor, 4.5yrs old, paid £75, now worth about £750 (again from what other people have said who know about pricing).

13.3 NF mare, 14yrs old, gifted to me, now worth £950.

My first horse i've bought is Major, i got him in September 2010 and he was £1000.

16.1, 5yo, chestnut thoroughbred he came out of the field and i re-backed him. I'm told i could easily get double that if not more now?

B and I a lot more than I paid. Bought as babies and now working. Lottie 15hh roan id x tb mare 31 yo paid 2000 in 1995 worth about 50 now lol. Invaluable to me.

I was given my old boy as a freebie when he was rising 7 (he is now 15). BWBxTB, he'd BE evented to Novice and got injured. I had years of fun on him at RC/PN/BD (inbetween lame boughts) and he is now retired. To me he is priceless, to others I'd probably have to pay them to take him LOL!

My rising 7yo, ISH x TB, I purchased for £2000 at 18 months old. As a 5yo he would probably have been worth around 7K having won consistently BD and jumped DC BE, but then got injured and had an op. Haven't really got much of a clue how much he is worth now, he will hunt next season in a loan home and then hopefully sell.

I recently purchased a 4/5yo 15.2hh, MW black gelding of dubious breeding history. I paid a premium for him £5K+ but he is super and is worth every penny.

paid 8k for my WB mare with good enough blood lines Galoubet A Libero H Gibramino SF Romeo BWP etc. shes only 15.2 though. bought her as green backed 5yo ( REALLY green backed lol when i went to try her, she walked around in circles to mount and could only jump about a foot...)

shes been with me for 6 months now. within the first two months i was offered 12k for her (refused.) and now i dont know what shes worth... but somewhere there.

Bought 7 years ago 3 year old (advertised as 5) 15hh medium weight cob paid €800 which included delivery from Ireland to North Wales and a saddle (which didn't fit but I sold for £200 on ebay!!:D)

Not sure what he'd be worth now cos he's not for sale and never will be but I'm guessing around £3000 for 10 year old bombproof cob who hunts, does XC, SJing, hacks and is generally the most fun you can get in a big hairy body!! He's not a novice ride and loves to run and jump but never bucks or rears, he's my Mr Perfect. :D

Whoops forgot about the new girl!!! Paid £200 for her 5 weeks ago to stop her going for meat. She's likely worth that still as I've done nothing with her yet. Hopefully once back into ridden work she'll be worth more but we are putting her on loan anyway and the people having her have expressed an interest to buy if she works out for them and we will sell her for what we paid, I'm not interested in making money from her I just want her to have a life.

Captain, KWPN Gelderlander (excellent lines ) . He is 17 this May, 17-3hh and cost me £2500. But he was not broken to ride, had been a competition and pleasure carriage horse. We had him started professionally then brought him on.He has fantastic paces, excellent attitude to work. But wind sucks and is a quirky horse. If he was even 4 yrs younger he would be worth around £5000/ £6000. KWPN Gelderlanders are like rocking horse poo and if you can find one for sale are very expensive. As he is 17 nearly, with his issues, he is probably worth meat money. Still to me he is priceless and has a home for life.

Fany, an Ardennes (Trait Ardennais) 14 yo mare, 15 in June. 14-2hh. Cost me £2300. She needed re-backing properly but she is the type people seem to be looking for. Hacks out alone or in company, will pop a small fence, and do a bit of dressage. Has won a lot in Belguim showing and is extremely well bred with champions on both sides (Sire/G.Sire/Dam/G.Dam) bombproof, easy to do, good doer, kind, friendly and very gentle, runs with mares o, geldings or mixed herds and a weight carrier. (She is suitable for tall people as she really takes up the leg) What would she be worth today, probably around what I paid for her. I would not sell her, although she may have to go out on loan, if my health does not improve.

My problem is I don't honestly think I could sell any horses I buy so have to be careful.

Back in 1992 paid 800GBP for a 14.1hh dark bay NF x TB 5 YO mare.

I still have her, but at nearly 24 she would be worth quite frankly meat money....but to me? she is priceless and will never ever be sold for meat or otherwise :)

Bought my boy 2 years ago for £4000. Now he is a 10yr old, 16.1hh registered British Sports Horse.

He does absolutely everything, hunts, xc, sj, dressage. There is nothing he wont turn his hoof to, and nothing he wont jump, and you could even put your granny on him for a hack round the village!

Love him to pieces, to me he is absolutely priceless, but dont know how much he would be worth in todays market? But he is with me for life so makes no difference :)

Ayla - 16.1 buckskin PBA bought as a 3yo unbacked for £930 with delivery and 20 bales of straw and 10 hay lol.... now priceless....she has a home forlife,

Roxy 16.3 Cleveland bay mare, bought as an unbacked 4 yo, £900 delivered

Beau - 2 yo welsh x tb black 4 whites,15h, £280, is currently up for sale for £1000 with offers

Mine was bought or £1000 as a ruined 7yo 15.3 ISH with muscular issues, mum fixed him and until last year for what he's done I would have asked 3- 3.5k, but he has a breathing problem so would have knocked it down to 2- 2500.

Absolute superstar, easy to do and will put his heart into anything asked of him by the right person.

Also a lot of fun!!!

Since last September- broken knees and resulting in stiffness I haven't worked through yet, so worth to someone else today? Sod all. To me? Everything.

He's never going anywhere :)

£200 when purchased in 1979, in his prime he was worth a lot of money but now he is 36 I guess he is not worth anything - except to me of course - and he is priceless :)

Red 15.2hh 5yo TB bought for £1700 6 months ago, now worth less as he's recovering from treatment on a sarcoid on his eye, current value irrelevant as he's my forever horse and I can't wait to get on and do things together :D

Dream 16hh 9yo TB also bought for £1700 6 months ago, probably worth a smidge more as his schooling is coming along very nicely and he's an absolute sweetie, was bought to loan to a friend :)

Bob is a 6yr old IDxWelsh 16hand ish maxi cob, proper show type. I paid £700 for him he had no manners, no schooling and was ridden in a 3 ring waterford gag with draw reins. He's now doing a bit of dressage and jumping, hacked out alone for 1st time last week and I'm hoping he is good enough to show at a reasonable standard (despite being rather pigeon toed). He's still a bit of a bugger though, throws in the odd rear now and then so don't really know what he is worth but he is a cracker so hopefully he'll be worth around the 4k mark as I did buy him with the intention to sell this spring.

pony - £250 unbacked 4 year old. wouldnt sell him anytime soon so dont care how much hes worth

Rupert - £995 as an 8 yr old wouldnt sell him ever. hes 18 now and isnt worth anything. but that doesnt matter

Til - paid £800 4yrs ago. She's now 9yr old, Highland unregistered, 14.2hh, haven't gone out seriously but she does a nice dressage test, pops show jumping/working hunter nicely, hacks, schools etc. Is a fun, easy to do pony so I believe her to be worth at least £2k.

Fid - paid £200 last year. She's now 4yrs old, reg. Newfie, 13.2hh, was unhandled/untouched when I got her. Now gradually getting ready to be backed. She walks out in hand, is easy to do and willing but nervous in new situations. Not sure what she's worth.

They're both here to stay. :)

My last horse I was gifted after 3 years of loaning him so he was a freebie. He was 25 by then, and clinically insane. However, he was worth his weight in gold several times over to us, but to people who didn't know us he was worse than worthless!

Tbh, I don't think I've ever added value to a horse. The only one we ever bought for me cost us £1500, and is now on permanent loan as a happy hacker following doing both his tendons in his back legs. So completely worthless! Before he did his tendons though, he was probably worth a fair bit as a brilliant boy's hunting pony/ dressage pony... He just wasn't a fan of jumping bigger jumps at comps.... Maybe £2500?

15.3 mare IDxTB 8yo in foal bought for £1,100 - sold foal for £1,200 mare now going well under saddle and hope to do some RC stuff this summer - would imagine that if I get her jumping and going the way I want to she could be worth 4/5K but she is not for sale!

11.2 2yo Registered Welsh A gelding with a pedigree as long as your arm and relatives that regularly attend HOYS and Olympia bought for £500. If he does as well as his relatives who know what he would be worth but imagine ponies like that do not come up very often!
Again, not for sale as it would break my 4yo daughter's heart!

i paid £1200 for my warmblood x 4 year old. just been backed.

ive brought her on and id like to think i colud put her up for £2500 and get £2200...

shes not for sale though :)

5 month old, wild, poor conditioned NF foal. Bought for £150.
Sold for £250 at the age of 20 months in fab condition, able to be handled by kids. So the amount I paid out in rent, vaccs, wormers, food, hay and bedding means I lost a lot of money but obviously wasn't in it for the money. Just wanted to give her a better life and I did. She loves her new home too.

Black 15.2hh registered British Warmblood 2 and 1/2 years old. Bought for £1950.
Was an absoloute nightmare to handle. Couldn't groom, touch legs, lead.
Now rising 4 year old. Good to handle MOST days now but still has his moments, but that's just him! Was backed last summer and went well, coming back in to work this spring. Has fabulous paces and loose jump. No idea what he's worth.

Black 13month old PB NF filly. Bought for £250. Sweetest pony and so stunning with a great nature. Currently about 12.3hh and rising 2. No idea what she's worth!

Grey 13hh rising 3 year old Connie gelding. Bought for £250. Good to handle in all ways. Now been sat on and lunged, easy to do! Will be broken lightly this summer. No idea again on what he's worth!

£2,000 as a 2 year old, unbroken but very well handled. No idea what he is worth as 12 year old 16.00hh now, but priceless to me.

Have not bought a horse for years as I breed them, but last one I bought is now 12 cost £3500 as a weanling, now working AM competing M, no idea what she is worth as she aint going nowhere soon!

Probably worth nothing much now, but bitter I am not, love him to bits!
Bay, IDxTB, 16h2", 18 years old now, bought 4 years ago £6,000.
