A thread that hasnt been done before! How much did you pay for your horse and....

£3150 for a 16hh 12yr old Welsh Sec D gelding, including tack. Done a bit of everything, good allrounder although not a world beater. A safe but fun horse.

He is now 14 and hasn't done much with me due to time so I would say he's worth about £2000.

I paid £950 for my horse 4 years ago and gave him away!

We were given our other pony as a 3 year old who had barely really been handled- he now is the most lovely mannered easy to handle pony almost 4 broken and hacking in front and behind very bravely. not sure whats he'd be worth but i imagine i am in a fair bit of profit even after giving horse 1 to a new home!
Not that it matters this boy is with us forever and ever!

i paid £450. for tango, hes a welsh x breed on bodmin moor... he was 7/8 ish when i got him 9 yrs ago.. was'nt broken properly, now a lovely pony. probably worth £1000 now?

I paid £300 for my ex-racer gelding who was 12 at the time. He is now 21 and as far as I am concerned, he is priceless. He will never be sold or given away.
I then paid £1200 for my ex-racer mare in April last year. After £9000 of vets bills, she is now worth about zero, but the illnesses are now in the past - onwards and upwards!!

16.1 Tb x Lusitano/Andalusian (been told by breeder by no names as evidence!). Bought as a 4yo in 2004 for £2650, was advertised at £3250.

He has very low mileage for a competition horse (thanks to me working abroad) but if I prettied him up a bit he would probably go for about £5-6k i think. Not that I'm selling, he is pretty sane and sensible most of the time and is not tricky or dirty in his jumping.

Bought my first pony for £200, onyl he knows how old he was! :D Had him for 14 years though, and after I had outgrown him he taught several other girls how to ride a cantankerous old pony that didn't like kids! :D

Bought mine for £3000 as a completely and utterly safe all-rounder, nothing special, just a 10yo 15.3hh IDx mare. That was 2006.

I think during the eight months I rode her properly and jumped, hacked and picked up a few RC dressage rosettes she was probably worth the £3k still.

She's now a 15yo with a dodgy tendon, dodgy limbs (well she had those when she came to me, but they're now worse) and can only hack - no jumping, schooling or anything. I reckon she'd do sponsored rides and is still the safest thing I've ever sat on. That includes the sofa!! :p

So now she's utterly worthless and costs more than she'd make in horse burgers  ... but is also priceless as a family friend :)

I've never sold a horse, and have been fortunate enough to be able to keep them. Most of them were bought for a fair amount, did their job, probably became worth a little more than I paid during their prime, and then became less valuable as they became older. My ex-racer, however was bought for £4k two years ago, but is worth zero now (or meat money, but I will not be selling him for that!), as he has been diagnosed with a whole array of horrendous wear and tear related problems, meaning he's a retired pet at the age of 10.

My boy cost me £100 plus vat (15% at the time. 2009) from the Darley rehoming scheme. I will never part with him but even still I doubt if he is worth very much. It always makes me laugh that it cost's me more to keep him per month than it did to buy him lol!

Melly bought for £750 in 2008, probably not worth that, but certainly not worth it now as a retired cripple! I couldnt let her go to a market and go for meat or to someone who would beat her into working, so bought her. Shes a forever keep, love her to death.
Seri I bought 18mths ago as rising 5 for £650 plus a half price cover from Greenbarrow Mr Smee (Rotherwood Peter Pan son) she's now heavilyin foal an prob worth £1500 as did a winter of work before going to stud, hoping to sell the foal for around 1k and go into in hand and driven comps with Seri.

$10000 as a just backed four year old, now as a 13 year old I've been offered a lot more! I'd never sell him though, he's my horse in a million!

He's a 16.2hh KWPN by Rampal

Registered Dartmoor gelding (rising 2, got a green passport so not a hill pony). Decent bloodlines (goes back to Shilstone Rocks). He was haltered, handled, lead out on the roads, feet picked up and he was easily boxed and transported. Bought him in January 2011 and paid £90 for him.

He's priceless though, he's one in a million; totally unique.

Mare - Bought for £2000 as a five year old, shes now ten and i've been offered ITRO £11,000 but I turned it down, shes priceless to me

Cob - Bought as a two year old for £1500, probably worth around 4-5K now

New Youngster - Just bought for £1800, he's a ISH and 15.3hh

First pony - £300 14 years ago, as 4yo welsh pony. Would probably have to pay someone to take her off me, given she is now 18, has cushings and is chronic laminitic.

Second pony - £800 10 years ago, as 12yo lunatic SJ pony (she started off advertised at £3000, but pretty much every child who tried her ended up either on the floor or hanging on for dear life as she span in circles). She will be 23 this year and is now a fat hairy pasture pet, so again not worth alot to anyone but me.

Horse - £3200 seven years ago, bought as a 12yo 15.1hh IDxTB as my first horse for SJ/general riding. He is 19 now so prob not worth much, but I reckon I would probably be looking at at least £4000 if I were to try to find a younger version of him that is equally as good.

my TB ex-racer cost £400 from a charity after some research found out as a yearling (12 yrs ago) some one paid 87,000 guineas for him
he's now my hack and riding club horse lives with 2 donkeys, all those hopes dashed by a leg injury;)

paid £1000 for Star as a rising 4yo just out of racing who had done basically nothing.

he's now 6yo, scoring 70% at affil elem, points at medium, at home does 4 and 3 time changes, baby piaffe and passage. all being well we are aiming for PSG next year.

the things going against him are breed (TB) and that he doesnt hack very safely, but even so he must be worth around £7/8k?????? he's got definate GP potential and is a doddle to *do*-clip etc, and is never sick sorry or unsound.if he was a warmblood i imagine he'd be worth double that, but there is a lot of breed bias in the dressage world unfortunately.

but its all irrelevant because he isnt for sale, not for a blank cheque even......i lucked out with him, he's already got further than most ex racers, and he's my horse of a lifetime.i could spend £30k on something that doesnt move as well, isnt so genuine and isnt so sound!!!!
