A tiny wee rantette about dogs on and off lead

Two flexi-leads? WTF??????
I admit I have used two leads in training (it teaches the dog not to 'assume' that once the main lead is on or off, it can behave in a certain way) in the past and it is quite popular in Schutzhund training (see pic) but taking a pet lab x for a walk?!

CC your not the only one I would probably do the same we have about 5-6 idiots with sibes over the big park out the back of our house 5 of those sibes are running round off lead with their owners miles away and the dogs are terrorising other people and their dogs and then there is the other guy who walks his sibe on two leads and the dog does the whole walk (well his whole walk is 1/4 of the park, it usually takes us a good 50 mins to get round the whole park so his walk is probably about 15 mins) on its back legs because it is leaping about, we do our best to ignore them all I am not having my dogs tarred with the same brush and theres only so many times I`ll be told i`m wrong because these people know more about the breed in the 8 or so months they have had these dogs than I have in the whole 6 years of ownership and the 7 years or so I did of research before then but hey ho you cant help them all
 
As far as I am concerned, the reason I take my dogs to large open spaces is for them to have a good ole leg stretch. I cannot see the point of taking ones dog for a walk in such a place if you object to other peoples dogs running free. Clearly if my dogs start making a nuisance of themselves by bothering other dogs in a slightly over enthusiastic manner they are put on the lead tout suite.
 
I alway call mine to me and put them in a down, even Skye who is on the long line anyway and I shorten it to get her to heel.
I often walk with a friend who has 5 dogs and they are always called to heel or down when others approach. We are often complimented on our well behaved dogs, but I think it is just common courtesy to keep your dogs under control.

I have to say, if I was in a large park where there are always lots of people walking their dogs off lead I would agree with you - I deliberately don't take my dog to places like that at busy times because I know she wouldn't like it, and I would expect other people to show the same common sense. It's just when we're on our usual walk, which is along footpaths and bridleways with no big open fields (well, except for farmer's crops which I'm not letting my dog run on!) that I get annoyed about it because it's not like you can really avoid someone if you have to pass them on a footpath.
