I have been having problems with my old lads hocks. He has arthritis and knocks them when he gets up in his stable. I finally got him to accept hock boots (he does the ministry of funny walks) but he had knocked one hock and I can't get it to heal. The boot keeps rubbing it.
I vetwrapped and sticky taped it for a few days but that costs a fortune. So brainwave, I bought a tubigrip bandage and put a pad with cream on underneath. Yaaay it worked! Stays on, is cheap and horse is happy.
It works to keep ice packs on difficult bits as well.
