A triangle in the woods! ---by the Spooky Pony

Dear maresmaid,

I hadn't considered that the round things that people-foals (and men-people) sometimes kick around the field might be treat balls! What, exactly, is a treat-ball? It sounds good!

As to the wheely things with the flappy blanket on top, I know what those are. I used to be very worried about them, but it turns out that there are people-foals inside. Very very small ones. I don't know why they don't just follow their mums like normal foals, but I have noticed that people-foals are, as a general rule, very slow-moving when they are small.

What is a goblin? Should I be worried about it?

Dear Spooky pony

I am a very wise old cob also from ireland like yourself I emigrated to england years ago, anyway getting to the point of these strange triangle things. Try not to be scared of them as they are only things humans place around the place to try and keep us on are hooves, also you waste far too much energy and could end up going even further on your outings with your human just to avoid them if you put up too much fuss.
Also this green stuff you would like to run on is not for running on its for eating, if you are really crafty just hang your head really heavy in the humans hands and grab quick gob fulls as you go past. You must always think of your stomach, if your truly from ireland it will be in your blood to snatch as much of this green stuff as possible whilst out with your human. Also those big yellow things make ideal scratching posts but only when they are asleep, the bonus of having a really good scratch especially on you bum and tail areas are that the humans although they do get cross with you is they will have to brush the tangles out, which is a added bonus (you get an extra scratch off your human). Hope this is all interesting to you, I have been around for a long long time, and have now realized that its all about food if you are good. Yum yum yummy polos. Give it a try :D

Dear Spooky Pony - A treat ball is a round thing that I sometimes find in my stable. It makes a rattly noise when I push it. At first I didn't like it, but then I found out that if I gave it a little nudge it spat nice little bits of food out - so now I quite like them. I am not sure if you are right about the people-foals in the wheely things with the flappy blankets, the noise they make doesn't sound like the noise the people-foals make when they chase the treat balls, but I might take a closer look next time I see one as I quite like people-foals - they always want to give me a pat when I'm out with She-who-brings-food so I get to stop and have a little rest and they smell quite nice. Do the people-foals in the wheely things with the flappy blankets have treats? I especially like people-foals who have treats!

I am very surprised that your Mum didn't tell you all about goblins - all the foals in my herd were taught about goblins and we were told to be sure to never ever go near a goblin otherwise something really really bad would happen. I have never actually SEEN a goblin but I can tell when they are there. They like to sneak up and surprise you, and they especially like to hide under flappy things (which is why I thought they were in the wheely things with the flappy blanket). Sometimes they move things when you are not looking so you always have to watch out if big things are put in a new place. I am very good at spotting goblin hidey places!

Dear maresmaid,

thank you so much for the warning about the goblins---I will have to have a look-out for them in the future! I'm quite sure about the people-foals in the wheely things, although they sadly don't tend to have treats. I must say, I am very intrigued by the whole treat-ball concept, and I wonder why I haven't seen one before. Maybe I can look the next time we are at the square place with a roof on---there is a stall there, in which I suspect there are many good things to eat, and also fun things to pull on and play with. I know this, because I've seen the Carrot Lady come out of there before with interesting things.

Dear The_snoopster,

it's very nice to hear from another horse from Ireland! I am very interested in anything I can eat, especially beech trees. I have also convinced the Carrot Lady that I am entitled to stop at the long-skinny-leaf plants with purple flowers on, when we go for a trot in the woods.

I have a very nice tail, as I'm sure you can see from my picture, and I'm sure the little mare in the field beside the square place admires it! I really like the purple brush that the Carrot Lady uses for my tail, so I thank you for the advice on how to get her to give me more scratches with it!

Dear Spooky Pony

I think you are very brave to go anywhere near any triangle things, let alone the long neck things. I can just about let my Carrot Lady get within the space of three of me near them and that's it. If she tries to make me go any nearer I have to hit the reverse button and go back very very quickly. She doesn't seem to like this and tries to get me to go past them, but unless I am with one of my friends I'm not very keen at all, although sometimes I can be persuaded if it is the only way we are going to get home.

You are my hero!

Love from Dolly

Dear Dolly,

would you come like to visit me too, with LiR? You could all be in the field beside the sandy square place, that has the pretty bay mare in, and I could make impressive shapes in the square place for you! :)
