Why do you wait for something to happen for months and then everything happens all at the same time?!!
Sunshine's owner (the chestnut in my sig) just called and has offered to give her to me. Now there are lots of pluses and minuses to Sunny so I shall list them and ask you lovely people to help me to make a decision!!
Plus points
- She's very easy to have around, doesnt require much work and would be able to be competed just from hacking alone
-She will event no problem
-She is cheap to keep as she's a good do-er
-She'd be the type that I could find a sharer for
She hunts wonderfully and is great fun

Minus points
-I'd make no money on her, unless I can find a sharer and maybe hire her out a bit to friends to hunt
-She's 10 and whilst she has a bility, she isnt going to be a decent eventer
-She is another bloomin mare!!!

So theres the dilemma, I like her, we get on, she's something else to event. But I dont earn any money to speak of, I'm trying to get my degree and I already have 2 to look after/ride.
Also dont currently have my own transport, though that could change in the near future.

Count up your plus points and count up your minus points........which is there more of? Decision made

Well what else do you have going for you event wise? Ok, so she wont make a decent eventer, but you say you like her, and shes a good hunter, would you get enough use from her, or would you just be keeping another horse for the sake of keeping her?

Awww this is a tricky one.

I can't offer any help as such but just a few questions for you to ponder on.

Would you miss her terribly if she were to go?
Would her owner mind you finding her a really good home for her?
Would you prefer that "horse space" to be left open for a youngster with potential?
Re the above question,,,,how likely is this to happen?
Would her "Hire" charges cover her keep?

I hope you make the reight decision for you.

Thats what I worry about- I feel like I'd just be taking her on as a favour, I dont think she'll go above PN and be competitive. She is fab to hunt though.

Oh it's so hard!!

To me it would be worth keeping her, but then I have never been an ambitious eventer, I think I would be thrilled at completing a PN, but you want so much more from ther event scene.
Fab hunters now are quite hard come by, personally I think far too many bring young ones out and stick them at the front straight off, this is where the problems start, so many people that dont own a mannerly hunter would pay you for a day out on a good one. If you like her, and you feel you could have use for her then go for it, but if you are getting her to keep her in rugs-dont.

If you arent jumping up and down at the thought of taking her then maybe having her till the end of the hunt season is the best option. Find her a nice PC home in the spring.

Hmm, I think you'd be better off just keeping the two you know you can make something out of, and could go further. If you're not going to gain anything other than have a nice "person" around from what I can gather, I would wave this one by, or find a nice home for her elsewhere.

I'm with Scrooge. You've got two youngsters to bring on and compete next year, both of which look fab and with loads of potential. If it were me I'd want to concentrate on the two I could do the most with. Plus if you end up short of time Sunshine will always be the one to come third in terms of riding and I don't know about anyone else if I'm really busy and don't get to ride as much as I should I start feeling really guilty. IMO if you're working full time or studying full time (or both!) then two horses is the max there's time for. Of course if you found a sharer for Sunshine then that might work out but people can be very unreliable and you might search for ages for a sharer then be let down and struggle to find anyone else. Sounds like a lot of hassle that you probably don't need

She sounds absolutely lovely - perfect for someone who just wants one horse and will have a blast on her.

You are in the same boat as me and looking for seller-on's. You've already said that you couldn't make any money on her......therefore if I was in your situation, I wouldn't have her, unless there was the potential to sell her as a hunter for a quick turnaround and a quick buck?

Cheers guys for your thoughts, I'm going to say I couldnt have her until I finish uni but after that I'd take her on and compete her.
Got offered a massive warmblood today to compete for the summer too, has already done some PNs so that could be a nother one to add to my string

Unless you could make money from hiring her out to people to compete ( now there's an idea- sort of lease her out to people for the day!) would think it would be better to invest your money and time into good horses that you can build value on...no matter how much of a good do-er she is she will still be a drain on your finanaces. Save your money and put it into a new horse fund for when you finish uni !
