Forgot to update. Had local vet out at just over a week post op, dye in eye and sent photo to specialist who is happy with rate of progress . By my estimation the green blob is about half the size it was when the specialist found the “hidden” ulcer .
ETA Tube will stay in for another couple of weeks until there is no dye uptake

Well done with persevering at the vet hospital, to finally find the problem.
I know your vets have said there isn't anything you can do, to prevent a recurrence, but I have an elderly retired horse who also has a history of eye ulcers and had one eye removed last year. Very quick recovery and adjustment, thankfully, but as we left the hospital the vet surgeon told me to always put on an eye mask to protect the good eye (which also had one ulcer before) whenever my horse was turned out. He is on full livery with daily turnout, so the mask comes off whenever he is brought in, but whatever the weather, sun, rain, and especially wind, blowing up dust, he has his mask put on first thing without fail. It is a good quality Shires mask which holds the net away from the eyes (I have 2 for washing and wearing). And so far in almost a year and a half, his remaining eye seems to have stayed very healthy.

Thanks , yes it definitely can’t do any harm to wear a mask, she is wearing a mask day and night at the moment to protect the eye and the tubing . I change it daily.
I have a couple of shires ones, agree they are good.

Glad your horse is doing well

Just catching up with this thread as old mare came in yesterday with swollen shut eye…vet out and we found a small line of an ulcer. Mare has had weepy eyes which I put down to flies…I’m going to keep a close watch on developments or healing now I’ve read this…every day is a school day 🙂

Has the vet put her on eye drops?

(There is a bit of a knack to getting them in , especially when the eye is painful.)
