Hi

I own two horses, one is Charlie a 17hh ISH who is at Rockley farm having barefoot rehab (because he's been diagnosed with navicular) and Mojo who is a 4 year old, 15.2hh ex racer that I brought as a project to sell.

Here's the problem! I've really fallen for my little ex racer, he's a great ride and has a super attitude to every thing. He's taken to re-schooling so well and I love riding him. My ISH is lovely don't get me wrong, but after having a break from riding TB's (I worked in racing for 10 years) I realise just how much I have missed riding a TB. So what can I do? I can't keep both, but how can I sell my ISH with navicular? I need your views and HELP please!

Thanks in advance.

I think you'd really struggle to sell the ISH. You could give him away but would you really want to?? If he's able to be ridden after rehab you could find him a nice loan home. If he isn't, pts is another option. If you can't keep 2, I guess it really depends how much you want to keep the TB!

I hate loaning, maybe my TB will have to go. I couldn't put my ISH out on loan again, he came back to me after 5 weeks looking terrible. Back to the drawing board I think! Ta any way

ah, quite far. When you said Rockley, I was picturing a place I know just a spit up the road from us. I was going to say that we've got space on the farm where we keep the pony, and it would have been cheaper, no facilities but a great place to semi/fully retire a horse.

Hmm tough one...
Okay so I think these are the options:

1. Sell the TB and keep the ISH
2. Put the ISH out on loan
3. Sell the ISH
4. Pts ISH
5. Give away ISH

1. This would be a last resort really for me because you obviously really like this horse! But at the same time you have to do what's right for the ISH too. Still i wouldn't sell the TB.

2. Sounds like a good idea to me... if you can find someone you trust... Check where they will be keeping him etc...

3. You will struggle to sell the ISH imho..

4. For me there isn't a good enough reason here to pts

5. Another good option if you can find someone you trust... BUT risky as someone could try and sell him on...

Thanks Katie, some good options there. I think I'm going to have to think about a loan, maybe from our yard? At least then I can keep a eye on him. Ahh its never easy!

Maybe if you could find someone who wants to do some riding and would give money towards keep you could keep them both. Try putting out an advert for a sharer, you never know, someone you trust might come along and I would have given anything for a bit of hacking before I could buy my own.

loaning your ISH out is probably going to be your most feesable option to be honest, I know you say you'd have bad experiences with this before but if you go into it with an open mind, having learnt from the past, you may find a solution in an unlikely place

I got the refs and did all the checks last time. If I could find a loan home locally, I guess it wouldn't be so bad? Scares me and I swore I'd never do it again though!
