A UK opinion on this horse please?

Don't own this horse and have nothing to do with the fact he is being sold. I like him and if I had the money, would have phoned about him already. The reason that I am posting is because I am interested in an UK view of him to see if or how it differs from the Australian view.

Well, as it equates to about £1200, I don't think he;s over priced, though not much info on what jumping he's done, sounds extremely green for a 10 year old, would expect him to have more of a grounding in the flatwork by now, but not bad for a project. For that price, I'd buy him, but I think, in today market, he'd be overpriced if he was much more. he's supposed to be at/nearing his peak :) sounds like a nice genuine horse though :)

Hi, looks like a riding club horse. No details of actual breeding. Advert confusing, says not novice, but description implies it is a novice type. At its age would expect it to have done more or be more schooled. Height is a problem as 17 h is off-putting. Could be a nice fella but in UK would struggle to get more than £2500 & may be difficult to sell, depending on what he is actually like to ride. What is your interest -- buying, selling, advising?
 
For a 'warmblood type' he's a bit ribby for my liking.... looks more like a TB. and for his flatwork, he's not even ready for low level eventing I wouldn't think
 
Would 100% say he's a TB!! He looks a good well made sort though. I guess it just depends on what you are looking for and to do what with. If he wasn't miles away from you I think you should go and see him in the flesh!

He is definitely a Thoroughbred. Silly me just took it for granted that people would know that. If I had the money, the distance wouldn't be a problem. Would pop up, see him and if I bought him, have him sent down on a horse transporter. Horses travel massive distances in Australia.
 
I would say, find the money ;)

IME of horses in aus, they always seemed pretty pricey for what they are. He looks a nice sort, I woudl be 99% sure TB too, with a huge behind and great shoulders I would imagine he would produce a great jump - I woudl be emailing the seller, asking for more pictures and going from there.

Just because he has only basic schoolin, tbh, anything that can canter on the right lead and stand square (something mine NEVER does :mad: ) is more than capable of doing low level eventing providing he can stay inside of the white boards.

This is the website of the lady I helped out a few times in aus - ok, so she's a breeder, but I was always a bit shocked at her prices :eek:

My interest is window shopping. When the funds are available, I will be looking for a big Thoroughbred of Warmblood type with a nice outlook on life. Based on the ad, he ticks those boxes so with access to peoples opinions here, I thought I'd ask.
 
Like others have said, doesn't seem to have done anything, & would be put off by phrases that he can jump with no mention of specifics. No mention of breeding which would imply he has potential. If I wanted one to bring on I'd rather pay the same for a younger horse who is less likely to have bad habits.
 
Not keen looks like he has high whithers but thAt might just be his scrawny neck. Too big for my taste but at that price you can't argue.
 
I would say, with knowledge (a little!) of the aussie market and the kind of horses everyday people have, he looks to be the perfect diamond in the rough, and I doubt it would take long to get him to where you wanted competition wise - look at that ass lol :D
