A variation on "do people look down on cob owners"?

Its not just cobs though that are the easy rides. My mare is a very impressive looking hunter type but is just the easiest ride. However I do believe it is because of the way I treat her and ride her - because she came with the most awful history! Lots of people comment on my well behaved horses out hunting - saying they wished their's was like that - but tbh its just the way they ride them - and there is no merit in that!

It is a far greater rider to produce a well behaved horse than one who boasts about sitting a difficult one!

totally agree
all my horses are well behaved, good in traffic, etc and have all been brought on either from birth or 3 yr olds

I don't look down on any horse particularly - so long as it's antics are suitable for it's owner (i.e. hate seeing someone with a safe cob trying to pretend it's a skitty TB by yanking and kicking at it - also hates to see novices struggling with nutty horses they've just been conned into buying)

my particular pet hate is people who hack out - block the way and are riding at a total plod with reins hanging and their jaws doing more work than their horse
I get very little time to ride and when I do I want to ride my horse actively at a nice good working walk and trot and not crawl along at a snails pace. - that's not to say I bomb about either - horse goes at a hack canter (was shown and placed as a hack when young)

cannot stand p-l-o-d in any horse - it has to be capable of waking up and working - the problem is that of the horses I see doing a p-l-o-d round here -they are often cobs - but I also overtook two VERY expensive warmblood 16.2 types plodding - very surprised when me on a 12hh pony at walk overtook them ;-))

Personally i like my horses to be a 'dope on a rope' when I'm on the ground and very workman like when I'm in the saddle.
Cant stand ill mannered horses, just cant be doing with them anymore.

I think people probably do pretend to look down on placid horses - but really they're just jealous! I can't be doing with horses that faff around and misbehave, its just stressful and irritating. I get so embarrased when Chex won't behave - he's awful in company (spinning, reversing, refusing to stand still etc) and I hate having to constantly apologise to others for his behaviour.

There's nothing nicer than having someone comment on how well behaved your horse is

Hmmm. Interesting thread. I would certainly never look down on anyone with a very quiet, placid horse (cob or otherwise), but for myself I do prefer something more sparky and lively - by which I do NOT mean nasty or ill-mannered.

Life would be very dull if we all wanted exactly the same type of horse (and there wouldn't be enough to go round).

I don't look down on any type of horse (well I try not too

), I do not like people who cannot or will not control their horses or do not treat them well, I also hate ill-mannered horses but again these are all problems caused by the owner

rant over.

People are always surprised that Fudge is so forward going (he's a Welsh D cob type), that he can work nicely in an outline, and has when he's taken dislike to someone bucked reared and span for England
