So sorry guys, I know that it seems like I only post about Ben at the moment! However, I really wanted to share this with HHO its been something Ive been determined to do for a very long time.

For a substantial part of her time, Ebony was kept at a livery yard that belonged to a friend just down the rd, infact, ben spent a substantial amount of his time before he was backed at that yard. This was Ben and the amazing Eb's at our old yard in 2011:

From this yard, there is a wonderful hack that I have always referred to as Ebony's hack, she adored it and so did I, it is a ride on national trust land, through fields, dirt tracks, over rivers, through woods, an uphill 's' bend in canter. In our years together Ebony and I enjoyed this ride many times, I have so many great memories of it.

It has always been my dearest wish to take Ben on this ride, I did want to do it last summer but due to the location of our yard it would turn what used to be a 40 min ride into a 2 1/2 hr ride. Well this year he is a big boy ;0 and Im not sure what came over me but yesterday lunchtime with the cold but beautiful weather I just knew the time was right.

To get to the ride we have to ride through Helston some way, we crossed over a main rd and road through an estate that brought us out opposite the lane we needed to ride down. Ben blew me away, excellent with traffic, bold and forward riding a new route, I still expected him to be wary of cantering on a new canter path incase the bogey man jumped out at him but no, he was bouncing on the spot asking to go. We stopped off at old yard and my bottom lip trembled, as we turned down there - he started whinnying for all he was worth, I have no doubt he knew where we were as he didnt make a sound as we went past other horses on the ride. He had great praise, fusses and adoration from our old friends their and patiently stood still while my friends son gently kicked a football at his front hooves hoping for a return kick (this really made me chuckle). On the way home, I decided to save time and cut out riding through the estate, instead I rode straight onto the rd, over the double roundabout by sainsburys and down a little rd right by the supermarket... he was amazing so good.

It was a wonderful hack and I feel such a sense happiness that we have finally ridden Ebonys favourite ride and visited our old yard.

I will not bore you with all the pics, there were loads :/! However here are a few of my favourites:

OK, So more of a photo overload than planned but it was a ride that meant so much to me, Im so happy we did it and so proud of Ben, I really wanted to share :D

That's lovely :) I would quite like to take Jazz to our old yard one day and take him out on the hacking routes I used to do with Dylan.

It was all a bit surreal to be honest, Im riding down their farm track with ben bellowing out, it took a while for everyone to process that it really was ben and I :D then there was lots of reminiscing. It was really nice actually, so many people there, fussing ben, chatting, I didnt have time to look at her old stable and have a lump in my throat... it was perfect :D

Sounds really lovely, love the pics
Great that Ben was so well behaved and you will always remember that hack :-)

I was very, very proud of him, I constantly have to pinch myself and remind myself that this boy isnt even six until june! Yes, its a hack that will never be forgotten x

Lovely photos you're so lucky to have all that on your doorstep

Thank you :D we are very lucky, I live in a wonderful part of the world, we have some amazing scenery to ride, some fab national trust land and moorlands, mine tracks.. its all really breathtaking and we have had some brilliant investment/work to open up new bridleways, put in horse friendly gates.

that's really lovely Queenbee, in every way :) xxx i remember that Sainsbury's well !!! great photo's too ( i love photo's), i can see his little ears are forward in every one of them , what a star!!

I practically keep that Sainsburys in business :D I know, his ears are never back ! He loves any hacks but he really loves exploring new places, he really picks up the pace eager to see what is around the corner :D

Wow what a beautiful ride. He looks like a cracker horse :)

Thank you, he is very special and the sole reason I am still riding after I lost Ebony, Like Eb's but for different reasons he seems to capture hearts and admirers wherever we go... that makes me super proud :D

Aaaaaw, this has to be one of the best posts I've read for a long time and I love the photos :) . Serious 'feel good factor' going on. What a fantastic horse too, with his brave pants on :)

Thanks guys, he is certainly a great boy, so hard when you have them from a baby, you wonder if they will turn into a horse you will click with, he is perfect for me I adore him and never feel anything but pride :D Yes lunch box... huge 'feel good factor'! xx

Hi OP. WHere abouts in Cornwall are you, somewhere near the Gold Centre maybe? That old lane with the the trees over looks rather familiar - very Cornish!

Lovely post! was very brave of you to do it Queenbee, sounds like Ben really rose to the occasion :) What a smashing boy :)

Thank you :D

FP, we are probably about 12 miles from the Gold Centre, I keep Ben in Gweek, this hack took place on the outskirts of Helston, right next to Culdrose - and yes, very Cornish! :D

Thank you :D

Aha, I know it well. I was born and raised in Stithians so not far from Gweek at all. There are some very nice tracks around the mines on the far side of the A30 via Redruth which is why I thought you might have been around that area. I think that is the Wheal Tolgus area? I've lived oop north for 30 years now and have lost my grip on place names in Cornwall!!

Yep, WT is Illogan, although I have never ridden that far, I used to ride to work in Stithians when I kept my old mare in Burras :D we have Penrose estate, goonhilly, loe bar, Porkellis and accompanying moors around here, although I used to keep my old mare (and Ben as a foal) over Four Lanes way so used to ride the great flat load daily. Its beautiful here and so varied.

Omg you hacked on your own across the top of town, your bonkers! I live in sithney btw, glad you had a nice time did you go to degibna?
