A very sad how much

Well as Teal isnt very well, I really need to sort out finances. I was planning on keeping my two youngsters till they were backed but I think I might have to sell Welly sooner than that in order to have the finaces to get Teal the best treatment.


So just to get an idea, how much do you think I should ask for him? He is now 2, brigh chestnut with four white stockings and a blaze, very flashy, with big paces and very high stepping trot. Has the kindest nature ever, will stand for cuddles all day long! Just loves people. Has very good old welsh bloodlines, and will make a perfect first pony. His brother is 4 and is almost ready to go as a first pony he is that quiet and Welly is even quieter! Full reg name Hafdre Welly. Will be gelded.

Ideas? I want to work out if it is worth selling him or not really

I wouldn't have thought you'd get a great deal, spooks would obviously be worth more. Has the vet had any ideas about what's wrong with or treatment for Teal yet?

Spooks is for sale come april anyway, but money from his sale already got a use

I dont expect a huge amount tbh, just want to know if it is worth doing, looking at the cost of gelding and how much he cost me, whether I will actually have anything left over to use on Teal.

The coughing is worse today and he seems to be lying down a lot. Will be off to the vets on monday for tests

Sorry, I don't think he'll be worth that much even though he is really lovely. I would think about £400.

I was just looking on horsequest at the youngsters, and the 2YO sections A's range from £150, to about £1500!

A lovely little 4YO section A, broken ready to start competeing 5K!

The prices seem so variable

He is very smart when he moves, really has something about him, you cant see how flashy he is from that picture as he still looks like a baby in it

We paid £1500 for our 4 year old Sec B that was just broken in..a cob with a good temperament will sell easier and for more money since they are generally for young children and parents wants them to be safe....How handled is he ? As a mother myself and if i was looking to buy a Sec A pony i would pay good money for him.....So if you "play and handle" him a lot i am sure that you can get a good price for him

You could do anything with him! He is completly traffic proof, leads, loads, has feet done, not naughty, just a nice easy baby

I paid £350 for tommy when he was rising 3 (gelded) Tommy also has revel in his bloodlines .

I had no idea really, hence the post, but enough to cover my costs of gelding etc, inorder to make it worth selling now as think as a 4 yr old he will be worth quite a bit

Yes either you hold on to him or sell him for a good price, as a parent myself i would pay around £1000 for a pony like that, that is 110% safe...on a pony like that you will always get your money back,they dont go down in value,opposite

To give you an idea I sold my Sec A last October broken to drive (fantastic at it too!!) and backed for £1,400. He won a lot in-hand and is a real sweetheart. Found a fab home for him aswell.

That sounds about right, had an offer for Spooks for £1500, but not the right home IMO so going to wait

Exactly PW .... Although I actually know I bought tommy at a steal , He was older than your little guy and gelded and lightly backed .

If I was you I would be inclined to hold onto him if you possibly can , Otherwise in a year or 2 .. Someone else is going to make the profit on him .

Think your right, it isnt the cost of keeping him as really doesnt cost much. I hate the thought of selling him now, without knowing he has been backed properly and sold to a home as a ridden pony. Just getting worried about Teal I suppose and couldnt think of another way to get some extra cash together

would also keep him, we find our colts arent worth any more gelded, we advertise them at such price as a colt and offer they can stay with us to be gelded at buyers cost.

the only thing with keeping him to be backed is finding a small rider to ride him for you once backed. not many parents want young ponies it helps to have a small rider show them off

Spooks is Hafdre Undeb (Welly's half brother) he is four and nearly ready to go, I have a small child that I borrow, she is very handy
