A very soggy bouncy weekend!

So I know what you're all waiting for with bated breath, and sorry no, pictures were still tricky to come by this weekend :(.... but video's were obtained :D:D:D.

First up on Saturday was a spot of xc practise to try and decide which class we should enter in the ODE at the end of the month. The weather was horrific, so needing to take things easy and also navigating around some suicidal rabbits (literally hopping about under foot as we were jumping :eek:), means I have decided Novice (80cm) is what we're going to go for! However after a bit of discussion about how we can jump and land in puddles, Topaz really got into a lovely rhythm so I'm hopeful we can have a confident round at the lower height.

The step combination out of trot as it all started to get very slippy!

Then yesterday we did our first 'proper' attempt at showjumping in three years, in that we went with the idea of being competitive :D, and we had a ball, even if we got wet again!
Started with the 70cm as a warm up as didn't go early for the clear rounds. Fab round and clear... well if I'd managed not to just canter past number six which yes was in a straight line from five :o. Very glad I had not coerced anyone into filming it :D:o:D.

Into the 80 and this time had number six down as clearly I surprised Topaz with going the direct route :o tricky those straight lines. Still good enough for third though!

Finally the 90, only two of us came forward but hey I was guaranteed a rosette :D! Topaz was by this point well up for it and was being a little tricky to hold :eek:, it's always a bit tricky deciding what bit to take her in, but we actually managed a clear round :D.

Into the jump off and bombed round to amazingly win :D, she absolutely loved it and got more excited the bigger the fences got :D.

on a side note, those fences look rather big for 80 and 90... or is it just me? 😳😂

Thank you, not sure she was impressed with the monsoon that had hit :D.

A few people said the fences looked bigger, and they were probably bang on the height for the 80 but perhaps were a touch bigger for the 90 as there were only two of us in and both horses capable of the height. Love this venue as the lady who runs it is lovely and great fun :), plus they don't tend to terrify Topaz with loads of fillers ;).

Well done both of you. And personally speaking, I don't think you should look at anything under 90 - she obviously likes this height and jumps beautifully over them.

:D She has really surprised me with how eager she was for the bigger fences, after such a long break I thought she'd be a little more reserved about it :eek::D. I think for the XC going a touch smaller won't hurt as I can be confident to let her look and still jump, whereas the bigger fences I tend to loose confidence that we can get over them from a slower pace. Still we have time to maybe try another event later in the season if the one this month goes well :).
 
Well done, good results & great videos !
Fences probably look bigger as they are so gappy without the fillers, so well done for leaving them all up.

Got to wait for the lunch break you know! And there was me thinking she was an awesome dressage pony, but clearly she has the heart of an eventer. What super rounds all of them. She's a total dude. They do look big to me too !

Thank you, very pleased with her and she liked them bigger so it didn't matter to me :D.

It's nearly 3pm how late do you have lunch :D.
We're pretend eventers, never quite manage to get it all right all at once :D, but think she may want to do more jumping if yesterday is anything to go by! Just hope the rain bogs off so we don't get rained off for our event!
 
Or maybe I just eat a really big lunch?

I did also mean to congratulate you on your all weather riding. Rotten weather this weekend so I just prettied up my pony (with the help of dianchi) and didn't ride. I did hide under a tree watching a local working hunter show though, do I get credit for that?!

She really really enjoyed the bigger fences, I however am a little out of practise and aching today :eek: :D.

Well true but even big meals don't last very long here :o, I think I 'might' know why my diet isn't going that well :D.

I did nearly give up on the xc schooling the weather was epic! However we got there and it wasn't too bad until about 30mins in, all my stuff is still drying out now we got that wet! I think that should count, as we did quite a bit of hiding under trees too or yesterday hiding in the indoor :D.

Hope prep is going well for your show :).
 
Only just caught up on the C&T board after my weekend away. What a good couple of days you had, despite the wet stuff! She looks an awesome jumper, you definitely need to try the eventing again. When's your next outing with her?

It was a lovely weekend apart from being soggy! Nothing booked now until the big return to eventing on the 26th :eek::eek::eek:, then will have to get my head back in the dressage game for regionals, though ideally I would like to find somewhere to run through the regional test before it!

Never known a horse like jumping 'quite' as much as she does, just need to not get carried away and let her keep it as her fun thing! Eventing was really the plan from the start but I'm not sure her temperament is suited to it really as she's so sensitive about life, when she's enjoying it its all easy when the atmosphere gets to her tension makes her withdraw and spooky...

However if she's decided that the world is less scary now she's a grown up horse of 13, we might do some more if she enjoys it :).

:D We'll see, happy to try but previous experiance tells me she will find something to have a meltdown about on the day ;). Though maybe now she's a teenager she's finally grown up and chilled out about life... scary thought a 'mature' Topaz :eek::D.
