Right, am going to type this quickly before the water works start...(tears not rain!!)

My dear Borris, a rough diamond IMHO but to others a bit of a loose cannon! I have owned him for 2 years (since a just backed 5 year old) and lets just say its not always been plain sailing. He is at best sharp to ride on the flat, but I think immensly talented. Hacking he is a saint, and is not bothered about being left or leaving others etc. Good in all respects to do, but can be a bit racehorse like going to and from the field.

I am aiming to event him this season, starting in June at Intro then swiftly up to PN.

Last night me and the OH had a bit of a barny about moral/financial support and he made it clear that I should have sold Borris a long time ago. Today it is all I can think about, especially after having the vet out again for Imps and receiving this months vets bill minus 2 other visits!

Who would take on a rising 7 year old that is like this? And if so at what price?

The chances are tomorrow it'll be a very different story but today I'm a bit upset as I have never in 4 years asked for moral/financial support but when the chips are down you need someone to prop you back up...

When you say "sharp" what does he do?

If its nothing more than general exuberance and he basically not a beginner ride, if the first few outings go well I would be looking for offers in excess of £5k. Anything less and Id ask what was wrong!

It comes under 'general exuberance' for sure! Sometimes he'll do nothing, another day he'll have a good old bounce around and a bit of a buck, but 99% of the time he'll settle after 5/10 mins and you won't hear another peep out of him!

He would not be a beginner/novice/or nervous persons ride, but if your confident and can laugh at him (which I do) when he does it then its all good.

He is by a TB stallion out of a mare by Clover Hill, so I put it down to the bit of TB. I explain him like a pint...once your through the flothy crap on the top, its worth it!

Haha! My mare is TB and cloverhill and does the same... so will remember it's the cloverhill bit ;) What are his results like? Pricing is very difficult currently, but would say about 6.5k depending on results/level he'll go to etc :D

he hasn't competed yet - aiming for June (ish!!) He'd go along way with a pro I think, but who knows on that one. Glad it does appear to be a Clover Hill trait!

It really doesn't sound like you want to sell him! Is there no alternative? X

I don't (think I'm just having a general whinge and whine!) bloody OH's!!!!

He sounds fairly normal for a youngish horse of the type, most people looking for a competition prospect will expect a few moments of exuberance anything too quiet will often lack the edge needed to go on. You just have to target the correct market.

It sounds like you do not want to sell but I think he sounds the type many people are looking for, smart looking, is a safe hack, well started with what looks like a really good jumping style, at 7 he will possibly appeal more than a 4/5 year old as he can just get on with things now.

A few outings at Intro with DCs you could easily ask £6-7k if he already has some record unaff in any sphere possibly a bit more.

I agree entirely. I would laugh at him and I am utterly incompetent and not even very competitive so doubt it would put off many people!

May I humbly suggest you sell your OH rather than Borris though? :D

Lol mine has almost no tb, but plenty of clover hill - and a very bouncy back end at times!
I'd say if you can get a couple of intro runs and maybe a PN, if results are consistent (I'd guess main concern would be clears XC) I'd guess around the £6000-8000 mark?

Lol...It is indeed a good thought!

He's gorgeous! Nothing wrong with him in my eyes just a normal,lovely,fun-loving horse!
How big is he?

He's 16.2hh and a little bit!

As I said tomorrow will probably be a different day and low and behold all thoughts of selling have vanished, OH has apologised and Borris and I had a lovely hack this morning...normal practice has been resumed!

You all have my full permission to get after me if I so much as whimper about this again! (This is my first HHO 'wobble' so I think I can be let off??!!)
