...the arena is finally being built! (well Dad started work on it this morning)

No more muddy fields, rock hard ground! Is hopeless here as we are on clay so it is either a complete bog or like concrete

Hopefully now I can really get on and get Jerry going, there will be no stopping us!

No it's not a pointless post. It's good for you to feel happy and excited and it's good for everyone else to hear of it - gives us all a smile as well. You know that's there's sympathy and understanding when you need it, thank you for giving us a chance to share in your happiness and excitement as well.

Make your Dad loads of cups of tea - if he's anything like my hubby he'll need them!

It is going to be really basic, just woodchips and an electric fence, but will do the job

Pretend that you don't mind waiting, and don't mention it for a month, in that time get up and make tea in the morning and do all the washing up, and he should miraculously start work on it
