The Veterinarian's Oath was adopted by the American Veterinary Medical Association's House of Delegates July 1969, and amended by the AVMA Executive Board, November 1999 and December 2010.

Being admitted to the profession of veterinary medicine, I solemnly swear to use my scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of society through the protection of animal health and welfare, the prevention and relief of animal suffering, the conservation of animal resources, the promotion of public health, and the advancement of medical knowledge.

I will practice my profession conscientiously, with dignity, and in keeping with the principles of veterinary medical ethics. I accept as a lifelong obligation the continual improvement of my professional knowledge and competence.

I do beleive that minxy's vets would have potentailly broken that oath!

Do we think£££££££££££££!?! Lets hope they refuse to treat anymore and PTS this very cruel publicity stunt.

The problem is now, if the vets do want to PTS she has to give permission so if she refuses the relevant authourities will have to pursue her. I have a feeling she would use the back lash, and lets face it this has kicked up a real stink!!, in her defence!

Its important to say that all those opposed to this are animal lovers - what does that tell you ms morris!!!

Maybe I have got it all wrong, but this pony is in this country, so what has it got to do with the American veterinary association?
Yes, the pony should be put to sleep, he will never have a normal life, and even if it wasn't his legs, his teeth are going to cause horrendous problems.
But he's definitely not being treated by American vets.

I posted the first one as its a more detailed oath. ALL vets take that oath. its kind of irrelevan which oath as it amounts to the same thing, having taken one myself :-P

This was my feeling and having read though one other thread I also saw the question being asked 'how do we know that the vet has not already recommend that the pony is PTS?' and I have to say I agree... we dont know this and this woman (I use the term loosely) has to give her permission to PTS. In the absense of her permission the vet has to recommend the 'next best' solution and this would probably be the surgery.

I also agree with the other comments on here that generally say something along the lines of 'we all have to pay for the care of our horses' and 'she should not have bred it if she could not afford to care for it by paying for the surgery it needs.' Overall reading through everything I agree that this poor little fellow should be PTS because even after the surgery he is not going to lead a full and pain free life.... That breaks my heart....

I echo comments that £6K is a massive amount of money that could be put to better use: fo example the starving horses in Eygpt or the Strangles cause here in the UK - not to mention the worming that needs to be carried out on the Bodmin ponies.....

Selfish selfish woman :(

according to FB - the vet treating minxy has refused to operate, not sure if they have recommended pts, she does have the right to a 2nd opnion. A vet can intervene om the grounds of welfare and this coudl potentially be the case.

I was indeed in the veterinary proffession just not a vet - any one who is a member of the RCVS wether it be a vet/nurse has to take an oath!
