Sadly Bags died today. He was my elderly neighbours pet shetland. Jack did everything possible for the little old chap, but Bags slipped coming out of his shelter this afternoon and damaged his hips. Jack is 84 and very knowledgable (he rides every month, and goes trekking for days on end!), he lost his wife 10 years ago and rescued Bags. Bags was about 36 years old (no one knows for sure), he was a chestnut gelding about 9.2hh and very very adorable. He had a goat 'Freda' and the sheep 'Baa' as his friends.!!!
Poor Bags, but Jack is feeling very very sad. I don't know what else I can do.

Lucky little Bags that Jack found him & was able to keep him safe for the last ten years.
R I P Bags, & thanks Jack. If only there were more like you around.

Would it be stupid to see if a rescue centre has a Shetland up for loan? And if Jack became unable to keep looking after it, the home would have it back so no rehoming worries there for Jack? As he has friends for it and a set up for a Shetland, perhaps they could be put to good use for a while longer yet?

Good idea Brighteyes, if that is what Jack would like. He's obviously done a wonderful job over the last 10years.
