A walking out in hand question........

I don't really walk out in hand, as i have a farm path so i'm not on the road so to speak and there is no traffic. However, from my road safety perspective i would want to see a neck strap, tail bandage and leg wraps. Also i would put a hiviz browband or nose band on the bridle (you should not be on the road without a bridle..highway code)

Obviously you should wear a hiviz tabbard and a hat with a hat cover if possible.

As a minimum I would have two leg bands on the off side legs and a tabard on the handler, a reflective/fluorescent headcollar and an extra pair of leg bands for the horse would be good too.

Not quite hi-vis.... I put a blinking bike light on me, front (white), back (red) and on the horse, just the cheap ones that wrap around with a bit of elastic.

This might sound stupid but a steady light makes it much more difficult for people to judge distance and approach speed, and drivers have a knee jerk reaction to a flickering brake light. So I hoped to trigger the "oh! that's something I should take care around" part of their brain as opposed to "stupid horse on the road" part.

I have black ponies that are totally invisible so they always wear a hi-vis sheet, they have a neck strap and now a hat thing (not used that yet!) and a noseband cover. My leg wraps have died and not been replaced yet but will be. I always have a jacket and hat cover, usually full sleeves unless it is too hot. Anyone with me also wears a jacket.
