I know I am a little premature but would like peoples feedback.
I bought my new horse last October and he appeared to be very bothered by the flies - they drove him mad!
I was just wondering what fly repellant products people would recommend - preferably in gel or cream format - he wasnt too keen on the spray!

Many thanks

ah was going to say make you own spray, but that wouldnt be possible if he doesnt like them! i think i have a tube of carday and martin insect repellent gel, which worked well

Get a fly rug, get one with a belly flap and they are great. Possibly a mask as well, or you can get repellant wipes which are good for those that dont like sprays

Get a fly rug. Also make your own spray, if your horse doesnt like the spray you can always spray it onto the rug before you put it on, then just wipe some on his face.

try garlic in his feeds too, my pony was really badly bothered by the flies last summer but i tried lots of fly repellents and none were that great, garlic worked wonders, though he did smell of it quite a lot lol!

Garlic didn't make any difference to my lot - except the smell!

I always use deosect which can easily be applied by sponge if he doesn't like a hand sprayer.

talking about human fly repellent someone told me another one last summer to use, jungle cream or something like that!

is it strange that garlic works well for some horses and not other? suppose it just depends on the horse, same as with everything else!
