Well, Saturday started really well. Having owned Bonnie for over 5.5 years and every time she needs to be clipped we've had to use a heavy dose of sedolin. This Saturday for the 1st time LM who clips her was able to do so without need of ANY sedation. To say I am over the moon is an understatement.

Bonnie was so terrified of the experience she'd leap about, run away and not stand still, and that was WITH sedolin. Saturday she didn't move a muscle, just stood calmly and in fact once LM got going she was enjoying it! So peeps, all I can say is time, kindness and patience does work.

So the weekend started well, but alas ended last night on a low...

I decided to lunge Bonnie as she's had a couple of weeks off work (rode her Friday and she was tense) so as it was so windy yesterday and she'd just been clipped I thought I would lunge in the menage.

Well she was still tense and a little spooky but was listening to my voice and being a good girl, 10 minutes in, something spooked her, she galloped off - I was pulled off my feet... literally, and landed on my face and knees in the menage :( No, I wasn't wearing a hat and for once I am glad of that as I don't know what face planting in a hat would have done (the peak etc), my glasses are shot and my face is grit grazed and cut where the frame of my busted glasses dug in :( I don't blame anyone, it's one of those things, she's never done anything like this before, in the past she's felt the tension on the line and stopped as she wouldn't dream of dragging me on purpose. No-one on the yard at the time came to my assistance, the YM who lives on site saw me kneeling in the middle of the menage and came over (though by that time I'd rung my OH to come as I knew I couldn't drive without my glasses). All this time, Bonnie just stood by me looking concerned, must have given her quite a scare. OH and YM looked for the missing lens whilst I walked Bonnie to cool/calm her down. The lens is missing (probably buried in the sand) but won't cause harm as it's plastic (thank goodness).

This morning my left shoulder hurts (thats the one that got pulled) and my neck too, the bruising is yet to appear on my head and face, though there is some swelling...

So that was my weekend, started so well and ended so horribly... hey ho, that's horses isn't it!!

So how was your weekends fellow HHO'ers?

HHO is giving me alot of trouble this morning, it keeps telling me that it's 'unavailable due to high demand'. :(

Hopefully it wont eat this reply!

Well done for clipping Bonnie without any sedalin! :D

I hope you feel better soon. It's always a shock when horses spook and bolt like that as it's so quick. I'm so glad that you are OK, shame about the glasses though (expensive blighters but replacable).

Poor you, like you said, can happen to anyone at anytime and nobodies fault. Horses eh?

I had an ok weekend, doing family stuff really, so not very horsey! I've just got in from talking Penny for one of her weekly walks, and Iam very pleased with her. She leads well and seems to accept most situations I put her in. Although, I did have minor heart failure as she was laying down, flat out and completely out for the count, I struggled to wake her up!! When she did 'come to' she got up too quickly and looked very wobberly, poor thing. She also had chosen to lay down right by the fence, almost under the electric tape keeping them away from the real fence (not 100% horse friendly) and with Meg standing over her - Meg is clearly softer than she lets on!!!

Oh blimey - new glasses - that wont be cheap. Congrats with the clipping, I dont even both with Flicks as she is so anti. The baby on the other hand just goes to sleep being clipped. I had an ok weekend. I have been stuggling with nerves ATM. And had been coming to grips with things quite nicely. Any hoo had back shoes taken off for the winter just before the torrential rain. So we couldnt ride out, couldnt ride in the field. This weekend has been the first bit of reasonable weather for about 3 weeks so my first ride in as many weeks - I and I was bricking myself. Manged a few canters and some pole work though.

Mine was the opposite, started badly, ended better. No idea why but on our Saturday morning hack, Che decided to start being a total plank about a mile from home. He was jogging sideways and kicking out behind every few strides. By the time I got to the turning back to the yard we had a queue of about 10 cars all sat behind a bus who had decided to stay put and flash his hazards having seen the exploits of my daft horse. Weirdly, I didnt feel particularly unsafe as such, but he always kicks out with his off side so a bit worrying if anything gets too close!!! Decided to school in the field yesterday, just in case, and he was an angel. So.. no idea really, too much nice autumn grass or possibly bitten by something, who knows. Horses eh!!!

Thank you :D

The forum IS playing up today.....

Hi Faracat, Just had text from OH, to repair specs (missing lens) £140.... Hmmm, think I'm going to get online and have a trawl as I can get NEW ones for that !

I'm starting to feel a little sorry for myself, as aching and sore in places that were not expected. It's hard to life my left arm but then I recall thats the one I got dragged and pulled airborne by :( ! But hey, Im here to tell the tale, hoping the bruising comes out so I will start to heal !

RuthnMeg, I know what you mean about heart failures !! Tara, the mare mine field shares with is a madam for lying down flat out, the times I've had to walk up to her and prod her to see if shes ok are innumerable !

Well done MagicMillbrook on getting some control on your nerves, I can empathise with you there, the more you do the more confident you'll get :)

MyBoyChe !! Sounds like total high jinx from your over enthusiastic boy, well done for perservering, my girl doesn't DO hacking solo....I am slowly trying to accustom her, took me 5.5 years to clip her without sedative, Lord knows how long getting her confident hacking will take, but hey, I have no time limit (thank goodness).

Im glad your boy made it up to you by being an angel yesterday, makes it all worthwhile when they behave and you enjoy it :D

Not a bad weekend, someone came to try one of the horses and she had i am an angel written all over her and went beautifully for me, woman got on and she done well i can walk faster but you dont expect me to trot do you.
Eventually i had to get the lady horse was taking the pee and to give her a bit of a dig and then all went well, after went to a govely 2 hour hack(ok and a stop at the pub) and finished horses for the evening and was home by 8pm, which is early for me.
So in all good, embarassing, good and happy, my my sunday in 1.
Oooops forgot sat, good horses, boring work then sunday

Look at glasses direct :). Not only are they reasonable, they also have a quick turnaround on orders.

I have quite a few pairs as spares from there as they are so cheap.

Oh I know what you mean... I don't like going to sales, though my friends have had some lovely horses in the past (and some nutters!). At least the nice once got a new proper home X

Thank you :D I shall get a look at the site... I think Boots are taking the mickey... £140 to repair (lightweight lens) or £180 for a new pair, they're having a "giraffe" aren't they ! So much appreciated will look now :-) X
