OK I have just got (well 3 weeks ago) a Vanner x Welsh D gelding, currently stands at 16hh. I say currently as he is 4 and think may have a bit of growth left in him and has bone the size of tree trunks lol
Anyways how much do you reckon he should weigh roughly?
Thanks in advance :D

Sorry I have no idea but I love his lying down picture. Looks like a real sweetie.
At a guess I would say fairly heavy - keep your toes well clear!!!

My first thought is that he needs some time to "catch up" if the photo is at the correct angle when he is eating out of his bucket, it looks like he is goint to have a bit of a growth spurt as his bum end high at the moment. So if it were me i would not be doing too much with him at the moment and making sure he has good quality forage to help him grow.

I think he is currently in very nice body condition. It's difficult without seeing him but my mare is 15.2hh and 6'9 rug and not as heavy structured as yours. She weighs around 650kg (maybe a little chubby just now but for many reasons that's ok for her!) so I think he could be pushing 750-800kg!!! What size of rug does he take?

Aww Max- that pic was taken on Day 3 of him being here, he was protesting to going back out in the field it was way to tiring lol.
GW- I thought that, I think he will make about 16.2hh buy the end of it all but that should come over time.
CM- he has come with a 6ft6 weatherbeeta rug but not tired it on yet, as he also came with a full winter coat lol And as for those weights, OMG he is now 550kg with a weight tape and still looks slightly hollow in the hip area. He has piled a fair bit of weight on since those pics were taken but I believe has a while to go. I am also paranoid about Lami so he is in during the day and out at night at the moment.

My mare is a warmblood x 16.1hh and takes a 6'6" rug. She currently weighs 584kg - got her weighed on a weighbridge 2weeks ago. I bring her in on a night and she gets soaked hay then out muzzled during the day.

you can try this =

weight(kg) = (girth[as in all round his body where the girth would sit in cms)2
multiplied by his length(point of shoulder-point of buttock) and then divide that by 11,877

so simpler (girth x girth) X length .. all divided by 11,877

hope this makes sense xx

My 16hh Clydie x, 7 yrs old, and in a 6ft 9 rug, comes up at 580 on a weight tape, but was weighbridged yesterday at 680. He is a pretty nice size condition score, 5 or 6 out of 10.

Hope that helps
