Saw this, is quite local to us so thought worth a look as a project for myself, my friend and my instructor (who also happens to be one of my best friends).

What do you think, any danger signs and questions to ask when we view?

Thanks x

Mare

Sounds lovely!

I always ask myself; "if they are really that good why are they so cheap?! That’s me being cynical though!

let us know if you go and see her!

Possibly a bit of a dealer on the side (has another horse for sale). If she has done all that is said then at her age I would be seriously worried about her joints. If the rider in the pic is her normal rider then I'd be worried about her back as well. Saddle is way too big for her back.

The first thing I do with any ad like this is put the mobile number in Google. if you do that you will find that this lady (although a 'private' advertiser) seems to be selling quite a few horses or has done quite recently.

Why would somebody who appears to be a dealer disguise that fact? And they are unusual breeds - cheap ex European meat horses maybe?

forewarned is forearmed

Thanks - agree with you definately re just 5 and ex polo and hunted..
Yes, they are dealers but on phone have said she is open to vet and short trial period so going to nip up tomoro and see. Could be disaster but could also be one who just needs a loving home and restarting. Just liked the look of her, and would start again slowly. We are pretty religeous about teeth/back/feet etc and would like to think if she's not ruined, then maybe she just needs a new life. Will keep you posted after viewing and thanks again for comments.

Just wondered what u thought re the Roan they have for sale, £1k more, but can be mareish, but they describe the 5y/o as pretty flawless. Theyve said she's straight moving and clean limbed, but guess they can say what they like on the phone........... x

I thought the roan looked ok too.
As long as you know that this isn't some family pony being sold on simply because they don't have time (as implied in the ad) and that they are making a business of this then you know what you are dealing with. The mare looks like a sweetie and could be lovely so good luck and defintely take a trial if possible

Mmm, agree with you the_witch (am sure youre not one) and will keep you posted. Very lucky to have my instructor coming with me who has done her fair share of buying/selling over the years and is also a lot tougher than me who is one of those 'ah-hasnt-it-got-a-kind-eye' types.
Methinks the catch is like people have implicated, she's possibly knackered already, but if we can have her for a few days with us and get the vet out, I guess its worth it esp as theyre within an hour of us. x

She brought the horse in 06 and used it as a hunter when it was a 4yo yet it was a polo pony before hand, that would mean it was broken and working VERY HARD at a very young age.......
