What would you pay for...

6yr old. Mare. 16hh. TB type.

Good points:
> huge scopey jump (clears 1.05 easily off any stride, has jumped 1.20 without problem)
> done a few BN SJ classes although not currently affliated
> Very nice established paces. Got the "wow" factor in the canter especially. Uphill and balanced, working in an outline, started lateral work, supple and balanced. Really gives you that 'dressage' feel when she's working correctly.
> sharp and forward but does not take off/buck/rear etc. Once settled , will accept the leg and/or stick without drama
> snaffled mouthed
> lovely to handle, good to catch etc hacks out alone or in company although can be a little spooky

The bad:
> box walks and is generally a bit stressy in the stable. Doesn't do anything mean but is very sensitive and prone to getting upset
> very sensitive generally... can't touch her ears, tricky to bridle up etc
> very very spooky on the flat especially when warming up. Light patches on the school floor, stored away fillers, jumps left out... you name it, she will spook at it. Not vicious spooks but more dancing sideways
> not consistent in her flatwork due to the spooking.
> one person horse and needs a routine
> Backs off fences initially and spooks. Doesn't stop but needs riding forwards rather than taking you in. Once she's jumped a fence a couple of times she is fine but she does have a look the first few times.

Basically she is a very sensitive ride and needs a competant quiet rider... but she is stunning to look at, has amazing paces and a jump like nothing I've ever sat and hates to touch a pole.

What would you pay for a horse like this? She is for sale and I'm tempted to buy her but I won't say how much til I get a few suggestions.

I would want her for RC eventing with a view to going affiated and take it from there.

Well I've got a 12 year 15.2 hh for sale, no problems other than it is a forward type of ride so not suitable for a novice, and it has an excellent proven comp record with no problems otherwise, and I have priced her at £3500.
Anything that can't be ridden by the average rider drops in price because of it.
I would say ours needs a similar rider to the one you describe but is way further on in it's training. Riders like that tend to be hard to find!
It's younger but with those sort of problems I doubt it's worth anymore than our mare pricewise.
Now wouldn't you like one you could go straight out and compete on

I bought a horse similar to the one you're describing, although not as spooky, but very forward going and could be difficult to ride at times because you coundn't put your leg on him. He would jump anything though. I paid £2,750 for him. Hope that helps!

I take it she's at your yard Jen? In this part of the world, I guess she'd be on the market for somewhere between 3 and 4k - depending how honest the seller was about her though!

IMO if you click and you think she could take you places, the sensitivity could be something you just have to put up with! I'd hope that the spooking would get less as she's worked more, she's only young still!

For an unregistered 6 year old that doesn't sound the easiest to ride I would say this is about fair. Horse's aren't really selling at the moment and you're in the middle of the competition season, you'll probably have to keep her til next year before you start competing. I think anything over £2k is over priced.

If she was a little star e.g no spooking and easy to ride I would probably say she was worth £3 - 3.5 k but she might never get over her sillyness, I have a 22 year old Arab that still spooks at dark bits on the ground and poles at the side of the school, hot bloods can be like this their whole life which can make them difficult to sell on.

Thanks everyone she is up for rather more than that I think, interesting to hear people's views as I would have priced her higher myself as well just down to the quality of her paces and the scope of her jump. Shows how little I know!

I really click with her; I love her sensitivity but I can see that she would be difficult to sell on if I ever wanted to. I'm not supposed to be in the market for a horse, I just really like this one. I will think carefully about it now after reading these responses.

For eventing I would have thought you would want a bolder horse, one that 'takes on' the fences rather than backing off them?

But then again she is only young...

Not a clue on price, I'm afraid.

Sorry - I'm not being much help at all, am I?!!
