Pony lives out 24/7 with a herd of geldings at the moment. There are other horses that are in seperate pens. The last couple of days he has acted strangely when he is being bought in or put out 'meeting' and passing other horses coming along the track. (in hand) Not all, just some. He arches his neck and paws the ground and yesterday he squeeled and turned in as if to kick. And i was told that he had been winding another horse in the next feild up by running up and down the fence pawing the ground and showing off. They have all been greys or wearing white fly rugs, I dont know it that is coincendence or not! Other than that he is perfectly 'normal' He is 16 years not new to the yard, and a bit stalion like, although these particular horses have been geldings. Any ideas why????

Not sure but my arab mare used to behave in exactly the same way when a grey horse was in an adjacent field. She would pace the fence line and heard my shetland away from the grey. She would allow all the other horses to approach my shetland but would show really agressive abnormal behaviour towards the grey horse and she did this with several other grey horses in her lifetime. I put her behaviour down to the fact she just didnt like grey horses!

Well I've heard from some that because horses are prey animals some of them don't like greys in the herd as it makes them more visible - might be a load of old balls but that's what I was told.

That's very strange....when we were supposed to be having a grey arab mare on loan we introduced her to my two mares, NF and shettie, and the NF just kept running round the shetland and not letting the grey anywhere near her.....but when we bought the Haflinger mare a few months later(after the loan didn't work out) it was completely different and the NF now acts like her mother! I didn't really think about it at the time but after reading your experiences this seems quite weird....
