Just because he can jump big fences, doenst mean he's worth anymore! I would say around 4k. I wouldnt pay anymore than that.

My horse was sold for three times that as a four year old - because he jumped anything you pointed him at - any shape any size........

I would say at this stage around 4k, only because he's not done anything competition wise and though he has a big jump, hasn't proven he has what it takes to be a brilliant competition horse.

However I would say that with some good solid work on his flatwork to build up his balance and power, and some decent competition mileage, you could double that price in a matter of months.

I was offered £8k for a mare 12 years ago as a 4 year old of unknown breeding but with a super jump. The price would have went up once they worked out how much scope she had.

He looks lovely, but on the subject WFP said (something along the lines of ) he'd rather have a horse that jumped 100 small fences well that one big fence - so I guess that goes with what people are saying here..

That's a horse with a lovely attitude, and even more so if his flatwork isn't that great as just getting a horse to a decent take-off spot for fence that size can't be that easy!

I imagine with a bit of spring grass inside him and some time spent on his flatwork he will be really good and very easy to sell. As he stands at the moment he might not say "look at me" quite so much (other than when you see him over a big fence!), and buyers are likely to want something a bit more polished on the flat. I guess the passport is a "made-up" one, if you reckon he's older than 5.

Excatly what we were thinking - such a lovely horse to jump that so honestly, considering his flatwork - we were blown away by him yesterday

You're right, at the moment he doesn't have that 'look at me' presence unless he's jumping, hence why lots of grub and long and low flatwork is being thrown at him, in the hope that might improve... however if someone had the time and built up a relationship with him he really wouldn't take long (imho) before he was great, as he's honest and really tries hard... he's very clean with his legs over jumps, he didn't knock a thing yesterday, tucks himself right up

dont worry about posting on here is only peoples opinions. Its good that he has done some hunting in ireland, maybe hunting him here would be a good idea so you can say hunted with such and such hunt, its good your taking him out to jump a course and if he is capable a few double clears British novice and a minimal amount of winnings on his card will seriously increase his value. Agree some spring grass and further development of his flat work with make him more appealing to buyers. My horse always spooks at one corner of the arena and he is 10! Do you need a quick sell or are you schooling him to sell?

Just seen your ad online
With that amount of talent and if he is 6/7 instead of 5 then £9,000 should be reachable , I know people that have payed alot more for alot less .
Good luck with finding him a new home

i payed £4000 4 1 of mine who sounded very simialair, 5 yo green not alot of flate work etc. when i tried him out we where jumping 1.30 ish and as soon as i brought him i dint jump him for about 2 months. didnt want to boggle his brain and i think now (2 years on) hes much better of for it. i would say id pay around £4000 for him but my honest opinion would be stop jumping him so big, u no he can do it so why push it?

If he was over here still he would be expected to jump round a course of at least 1.20 in the 5 yr old qualifiers, with some of the larger shows jumping bigger in the final.
He looks a really nice horse. Did he do any SJAI over here as a four year old?

Hmm but that doesn't mean it's a good thing imo

There's more horses ruined over here through loose jumping them in comps as 3yos then pushing them through the age classes - especially as Irish horses always take longer to mature and strengthen. By the time they're sold across the water they're often totally hammered

Such a shame.

Lovely little horse with lots of potential . He's my type of horse.
I dont think popping him over a couple of fences this height will do him any harm at all at 5 any sj yards I've worked on would do this. You realise he needs groundwork and confidence so I dont see the harm. I would say he's worth no more than 6k at the moment however in bsja land they do pay silly money for horses these days!
I would advertise him in the showjumpers section if I were you .

Im going against everyone, lovely horse, no problem with trying him over bigger fences. I know plenty of people who when they have got a horse to sell jump it 1.40+ if it can, even as 4yo.

I hope he finds a nice home, I would pay £5k but i would say with a bit more flatwork and experience at shows he will be worth a lot more
smile.gif

Very nice-looking horse. I'd expect to pay £6k plus for something with that amount of scope, despite unknown breeding. Some great horses have come from nowhere and if produced correctly this one looks like it could go far. looks very weak at the mo, but regular correct work should sort that out.

I would also expect him to sell at £5.5k He is lovely, and am pleased it isnt a regular thing him jumping that height at his age
smile.gif
Get him out on the circuit, and you will easily get another few grand under your belt for him! What happened to your Chestnut boy?

I'd be happy paying decent money for him - at the end of the day it's the talent and attitude that counts especially in a gelding. You're not able to breed from him so if he's good enough who gives a monkeys how he's bred? I've had some fantastically bred horses who were quirky and completely useless and I've had some Heinz 57's who were honest, consistent, quick thinking, coped with whatever you threw at them and were worth their weight in gold. Just out of interest is Toytown worth any less than the other top 4* eventers just because his breeding is unknown?

Sorry but people who are saying he's not worth a great deal I really don't agree. Are you telling me that a horse that can clear that sort of height, under saddle and with not great flatwork isn't worth much?

He's the sort of horse who would hopefully take a kid who can't afford the £20,000 horses of this world to the top.

Really hope you find a good potential match for him...infact I may know someone if you're looking to sell!

x

Take him to a few shows and get some competition experience under his belt. Then you can say how well he behaved and how he did. Hope this helps

He's a beautiful horse and has a cracker of a jump on him - I have no doubts that you will sell him at somewhere close to your asking price.

My showjump trainer, who is top class international level and breeds and trains and sells horses told me that the breeding of a horse is EVERYTHING these days if you are selling a potential horse... you will have to prove it very well to get that kind of money, but good luck anyway.

Disagree re the breeding comments. Yes if it is a mare, but for a gelding what difference does it make?!! Aslong as has the talent and attitude, who gives a sh*t who its by/out of?!
