My Shetland pony's eye has been producing a small amount of gunk for the past few days. Nothing bad, but fairly consistent. Yesterday I noticed that other eye has also started doing the same.

Is it worth calling the vet, and does anyone have any magic recipes? :)

I tend to bathe with a used tea bag. However as your pony is getting worse not better I'd certainly ring the vet for advice, if not a call out.

yes it could be conjunctivitis (easily treated) may explain why its now spread to the other eye. I would bath with cool boiled water and cotton wool but use a separate cotton wool for each eye.

I would also ring the vet and go from there.

Eyes and colic, get a vet. Archie's eye started out like this but there was also some swelling. The most minute ulcer was found but even with treatment it got worse. He was hospitalised for 17 days. I would not take a chance personally. At least ring the vet to let them know and get their advice.

Cold tea and cotton wool but if they start to look infected or swollen I would get the vet out, its important to check there is no ulcer or foreign body I think. If they are itchy the horse might rub dirt into it which is what my old loan horse did and got an infection. Vet gave him antibiotic ointment and all was well. I put a mesh fly mask on him to protect it til healed.
