so my horse is turned out of a morning @ about 8.30 by YO, i have just recieved a text 10 minutes ago to say Flint not gone out, will not turn him out until you get energiser.
so i texted back and said i cant keep him in until i can get one and he said you will have to speak later

is it me or is that out of order? the fencing is electric and flints field is too far down the fields to get a full electric supply, so he goes through it. i borrowed one but she needed it back. so she has got that back but feel its unfair of me to pay out for something thats his repsonsibilty as its the inadequate fencing thats the problem...its not just my horse who breaks through it! its times like this that i feel like moving him!

Well, at my previous yard, it was up to the liveries to supply electric fencing if it was wanted. The fencing was excellent - but rylock and barbed wire. So we purchased what was required, including the battery.

Personally I don't have a problem with that if it makes my life easier.

However, if your fencing is not safe, and that is why you have to have electric fencing, and it is not supplied by YO - then do what you need to do to keep your horse in one piece, and find a more appropriate yard to move to.

the only thing required by us was too poo pick our own fields. perimiter fencing was his responsibility but if you wanted to section your field up then it was urs! flints really highly strung and it upsets him to be stuck in all day. dont know if he has got feed and water being stuck in all day. YO not text back and it costs me more money in hay and bedding!

seems very unfair to me, on my yard all the fencing is maintained by the yard owner,i would of thought that was normal, i bet your cross your poor horse been cooped up all day in a stable.

You are paying for a service which you are clearly not getting - i would mention that it is YO's repsonsibility to keep fencing sorted!!!!

people are to bothered to speak, he had to stay in xmas day and boxing day because of this its an on going scenario. if the fencing was adequate then he would not be going through it. i cant turn hi out with others and he tends to play non stop and desnt know when others horses have limits

And you are willing to pay good money to keep your horse at this place??

I would hope your YO would at least ensure he has water if he has chosen to keep the horse in! If not I dont think I would have alot of respect for your YO!!!!

i've been going through this because YO had a piece of string closing off our field instead of a gate and surprisingly enough Daise got through it.

By being calm, polite and stating our objections the problem is being sorted and a gate installed. Speak to the YO in a rational manner, they may not realise how much this is upsetting you. People can be very quick to move yards but nowhere is perfect, I would have a polite conversation about it and go from there

well just got back from yard at dinner time, no water, no hay and the entire centre of his bed has had to be removed... he's not a stand in all dayer, he paces around worrying. he has said other person needed it back as her horse was goingthrough the fence and was worried she would injure herself, which i 100% understand but then i think of flints welfare too and as horrid as this seems he is mine and my concern. he said he can not afford to install a kit in flints field and can i tap my mother for the money?! he wont turn him out with anyone else as he doesnt trust flint with other horses (he's not aggressive just plays non stop and annoys the others!) i get paid every 2 weeks so flint wil just have to stay in until next thurs!!

i sympathise, as my horse box walks if he's left in beyond the time when he should go out. his box is immaculate usually but if he's left in too long he churns it up

Good grief! Parents - £20 - battery.

Get a grip!!

Well, you're going to need to do something.

I'm sorry - but why do people;

A. Keep horses when they can't afford them?
B. Keep them at unsuitable places?

It's beyond me.

A. fencing is YO owners responsibilty
B. I've been on there for three years now and never had a problem with him at all until xmas.

flint has never gone without anything but if your so afflux please can you lend me the £20.00 ? no thought not!
get a grip sweetheart, not all of us are as rich, sensible and holier than thou!

You should be putting your horse's welfare first. If your horse needs to go out so badly, can't you rent some grazing nearby until you can find something more suitable?

he said he would but apparently the main box blew on sunday thus the running of horses all over the place! and in most cases u need to pay up front when u move yards dont u so not an option. he wil have to stay in and i'll make it as easy and comfortable for him as possible. thanks tho

Yes, we would all agree that the fencing is the yard owners responsibility - but as it would appear that there is only one electric fence, and it's removal has resulted in your horse having to stay in, it has now become your responsibility too.

I apologise if I come accross a bit irrate - but even though we have to keep our horses at livery yards - they are still our responsibility. And however frustrating a situation that arises may be - we as owners have to do the best we can to sort it out.

Now if your horse is happy to be stabled all the time, and you are able to care for it appropriately then no problem. Of course if he isn't and you can't - then obviously you have a real problem.

I am not loaded by any means - none of us on here are. I'm just in the happy position of being able to address a problem like this should it arise.

well im sorry im just irrate with YO, im the only one who is being asked to and that really frustrates me, its always flint that suffers its not just that i find it really irresponsible he had been in since yesterday afternoon and he didnt check his water etc.. i would never treat his horses liek that

Maybe time to find a better yard then do you think?

I know you value your covered school, but to be honest, I've never had one - and it's never prevented me from riding.

Let's put it this way if the horse escapes (whoevers fault it is) and causes an accident then the horse owner is responsible. Make sure that your insurance policy includes third party liability cover up to £10,000,000

It really depends on the understanding you have with the yard owner.

At my old yard in England, all full liveries had individual electric fenced paddocks which ran from the mains, and all paddocks were within one huge post and rail fenced field.

All the DIYers had large post and rail/wire perimeter fenced fields and if they wanted to split up these fields then they were welcome to but I did not supply them with individual energisers for this.

You know, I see this written an awful lot and it makes absolutely no sense to me in the slightest

.

The yard you are at requires rent upfront - the new yard requires rent upfront.....therefore you are still only paying exactly the same each month, at the same time, regardless of which yard you are at

.

when i came on this yard it was like 2 weeks livery upfront so that at the time was £50.00. if i move to another yard the other i like its the same there 2 so u still need the £50.00 upfront so to speak

Yes that's what I said

. So it doesn't make any difference which yard you are paying the money to......unless you are planning to leave without giving notice.

The way i see it is that the fencing is down to the YO and if the fencing is not good enough to keep a horse in then the electric fencing should be provided by the YO.

Also what Flitus is saying is why is it always his horse that has to suffer! If the other horse was having a problem with the fencing why isnt that horse now in its stable instead of taking fencing from flint who then has to stay in. Doesnt seem fare to me, i know i would be angry if it had happened to me.
