I have ranted about TBs before, but BLOODY STINKING THOROUGHBREDS!!!

So, in the space of about 10 days, horse has:

Gone lame
Expanded out of 2 saddles
Pulled a brand new shoe off
Ripped a lovely Fal rug
Broken out of field into rested field

To add insult to injury, rats have destroyed my beautiful thermatex, and my 2 month old joules wellies split and soaked my foot with mud and water. Also got RSI in my right shoulder.

Thought bad things were supposed to come in 3s?? I count 9! Well that's 3x3 I suppose, maybe that buys me some credit for a while??

Unfortunately I'm at work, and company rules state no alcohol allowed on the premises :( (I checked!)
 
LOL - bloody horses!

Can I please add a Thermatex story... last night, lunged mare, she got very hot, got thermatex out and put it on her - was doing up front straps so you know the position, head down, pretty close to her front and out of the corner of my eye I saw something move. My god, it had hob nailed boots on it was so enormous! Huge fat hairy legged spider, lumbering it's way across my beautiful thermatex.

I screamed and everyone came running out of their stables - thought Star had kicked me or something!

I hate spiders ...
 
Other breeds can also be pains.

After 8 months off from self inflicted in field injury I wanted to ride my arab 3 weeks ago, on a sunday afternoon. That morning, harrow attached to tractor, we were manoevering it through gateway (animals very used to harrow in field, just stay out of way) when she snuck up behind us, jumped onto harrow, cut leg & got out of field...thankfully small cut so still walked her out. Last night led her 3 yr old daughter into her stable, waited for her to turn around so I could take her headcollar off when she scraped her nose along the wall. Now very sore & covered in sudocrem. Like mother like daughter I guess. No sense of self preservation.
 
Ahh, other peoples' tales of woe and misery do make me feel slightly better ;):D

Hope you're horses are ok though, pip!

Heres hoping you have had all the bad luck your going to get for sometime now, its horrid as always seems to come in a batch.

How is the lameness now ? Would be so upset about the Thermatex !

And on the note of HobNail Boot wearing spiders we have them also, I invested in three Bettawear bug catchers one for yard one for car and one for home they are so handy, have a long handle and a plastic cage for trapping the little darlings then you can let them out away from harms way

Yah, am fuming about the thermatex (see previous post on Rats!!! :p).

Fortunately horse is no longer lame, and as the shoe was pulled off only a few days after it was put on I didn't have to pay for it. Small mercies, I suppose...

As for spiders... *shudder*!!!!

Hm. You wouldn't want to live here... A house down the road is called Cobwebs... :cool:

As to horses, lameness, etc., don't get me started!

*goes back to doing some work, muttering darkly under breath about wonky legged horses - even D has taken to watching horses keenly on the telly and yelling "He's lame!" - it's a family thing :rolleyes::cool:*
 
I can totally relate!!! My TB lost all four shoes at different times in the past 6 weeks! His field mate has ripped all 14 of his rugs, mainly Rambo's!! (yes, I'm a rug a holic!!) Not ripped, shredded is probably more accurate, from front to back!! They've put plastic bags all over the field next to them so he's a nightmare to get in and out of field at the mo and his neck is covered in bites from his field mate!! This is the field mate that if I take away or even move into next field he screams and jumps across into field to be back with him for more torture!!
They're now living out so I need him rugged up at night and he's good with his rugs but allows his mate to shred them! Trouble is he needs rugging at night so everyday I'm sewing the rugs back up to be torn again the next day! Put that no bite rug stuff on but if it rains it runs and then brings him up in a rash!!!

Soon though it will warm up so he'll be totally naked so no more rug sewing!! Just a horse who gets hayfever and headshakes!! Cant' wait!!

And we do this WHY :) I think theres another saying here cant live with em cant live without em

Since September I had three months box rest, Ripped Rugs, Nosebleeds, Damaged Fencing. Bed Soaking and now he has taken a chunk out of his hoof been off work all week, saving grace light nights are here.

Unfortunately I know how you feel

Last year I smashed my car up on black ice, broke my collar bone and then when I was ready to ride, my horse chipped his pedal bone and needed operating on :(

Thought this year must be better, started bringing my boy back into work had annual dental check and he had a chipped tooth, not a straight forward chip, but one that required 2.5hrs under heavy sedation, a £2k vet bill and 2mths off work. I also purchased a new horse in Jan (my 2nd chestnut TB) and so far he has pulled off 3 shoes, 2 of those in a space of 3days, problem is he has now taught my other TB to do the same :-( 3 visits from the farrier in 1 wk :( New one is always in the wars, Im not sure I would buy another chestnut TB

Oh dear I was about to have a rant in the fact that my boy had lost 2 shoes and ripped 2 rugs in the space of a month.. you've made me feel abit better! Sorry :p:D
 
One of mine headbutted me this morning while turning out, whacked my glasses above my eye and have given me a huge gash and what a shiner. I look like a victim of Domestic Violence....:o
 
Yikes! Some serious runs of bad luck on here!!!

I can recommend the Shire's 2000 denier HW turnouts for winter, though. It did rub horse's mane a little, but it survived the most determined rug trashers I've ever known intact!
