Another day, another hack.

Started well . . . both boys striding out, ears pricked. Apparently there's some sort of cycling paperchase going on in the forest . . . flappy bits of paper hanging from every third bush/tree, cyclists wizzing about everywhere - not to mention large gangs of townies prowling in the bushes with their dogs (as opposed to out on the path where the horses can see them), other hackers bombing around like the clappers and the odd rather large, scary forestry machine parked around the corner.

Yes, both boys were doing their giraffe impression complete with eyes on stalks - yes, both boys were rather jig-joggy and nappy wanting to follow all the other horses . . . but . . . on the other hand . . .

. . . yes, both riders remembered to give and retake the rein and breathe . . . and, yes, both riders still managed some long trots and even a sneaky canter . . . and, yes, both riders ended the ride sauntering along on the buckle with feet out of the stirrups!

Hurrah!

Very pleased with my little grey donk today . . . he wanted to be a fire-breathing gallopy boy, but he listened to me and when I relaxed so did he :D. He is now out in the field with no rug on a) to have the sun on his back; and b) help shift that winter coat.

Nice one

I had a solo hack this morning (nothing unusual there) and we had a lovely nature ramble most of the way, interspersed with the odd tigger impressions on occasions :D made me grin, as at least Big Fuzzy likes to keep me on my toes - which I enjoy.
Then put Big Fuzzy out with Tiny fuzzy (day 4 of them together) and they pootled off happily across the paddock to get on with mowing, lovely to see them out with no rugs on at all again :)

Feeling virtuous as have cleaned all tack properly (no lick and a promise) & now back off to the yard to do some spring cleaning till tea-time :)

Thank you :).

Little victories.

Good for you!! :)

Another jealous one here... Too full of a cold to have my lesson this morning so had to sit in the sunshine, coughing spluttering and snorting, and watch my darling son (yes he's in the dog house anyway), take my place and have a great lesson instead... Bah humbug...

Oh feel better soon :( . . . but great that your son had a good lesson - that's a positive surely?

P.S. I highly recommend a hot toddie, hot water bottle and a pair of fuzzy slippers . . .

Sounds great, like you say, you have to give and re take with the reins at times like that, and breathe! :D
I rode a friends mare who was a little devil, I stuck to road work so as she could not tank off today as I have not ridden in a while, and she is not used to solo hacking.
Well the little devil bucked twice, argued alot the whole time in terms of going forward, she did not want to go, but I persisted. I then asked for a trot and she took off to canter, on the road
Anyhoo managed to get her under control, fortunately you can bring her back under control with persuasion, unlike some horses  and we got home safe. I thought, ok as you want to canter we will have a quick one round the school, could I get her out of walk, could I heck!
