We have a lovely yard, we have some fantastic clients. We have lovely post and rail paddocks, a good school. Lovely stables and we really go out of our way to look after out liveries, so why did I overhear two of my liveries (husband and wife) badmouthing us to another livery while I was in the garden and they were on the back yard. Its sunny, it's my house and i am probably out in the garden so no I wasn;t evesdropping, I was just lying in my hammock, having spent the past 3 hours poo picking the liveries fields and he was mouthing off loudly to his wife and other livery

I have told them to go, this is the last time I will put up with them bitching and badmouthing me and the yard. What is it with people that they are so cowardly they won't say anything to your face but will bitch about you to others. I would far rather them come and tell me what their issue is then it can be sorted. And we do go out of our way to sort everything so life is easy for the liveries.

sorry rant over.

I know what you mean! I'm a livery and I really cannot understand why, if you have a problem, you can't just say it? But some people have to accept the yard is run by some one elses rules and as a livery you have to accept that things will never be 100 per cent the way you do things or get your own land! There is a couple of people on my yard who NEVER stop complaining (one is a member of staff) and I run when I see them coming. Some people could start a fight in an empty house! :D

I bet they are kicking themselves now.....Im on a lovely yard and would never dream of bad-mouthing the owners. I am VERY aware that it is their property and I am very priveleged to be there.

My YM is one of my closest friends (but I am a paying livery like everyone else!). So I get the other liveries coming up to me with moans because they don't want to go to YM themselves... So annoying. I've told them to go straight to her and laughingly told them that I don't repeat to her what they say to me (unless the problem is also one for me too). So annoying! If you have an issue, just tell the YM!!!

Wow, i wish my YO poo picked for us...they are very luck bunnies and prob won't realise how lucky they were until they have left.

I think i have a good relationship with my YO but there are somethings that annoy me but i put up with them because i know overall i have it pretty good.

I hope your next liveries appreciate your yard and the poo picking!!!!

The stupid thing is these people were really good friends, we have gone out of our way to help them. And today I was really annoyed to hear them slating me, and that was after receiving an invite from my and my OH to a party that we are having and had invited all the liveries to.

Apparantly they were not happy because in last months news letter I had asked all the liveries to let me know when they took hay, then I would add it to their bill. I was trusting them to do this, and have never had a problem with anyone not doing it. In this months news letter I had put that I was extremely disappointed as some liveries had been taking the hay and not letting me know, I was aware who it was.

Guess who were the guilty ones!!

I'm also very thankful for the wonderful yard I'm on, and it's wonderful YOs! They WERE hard to find, we went through numerous livery yards before we found the right one :)
Can fully agree with kicking them off if there really wasn't anything to complain about - if the stables were falling down around their horses ears... maybe. ;) :p

i love my yard owners too - and appreciate how they keep the yard so well run so my horse is happy - i think you were right to get rid - if they had problems, concerns, worries or moans they should have come to you xxx

Maybe they just forgot? If they are friends, don't throw it all away, remember it's hot and people get bothered by stuff they normally wouldn't!!

I have to say, I would find it a bit of a burden to self-record my hay usage. Maybe this was their problem? Hope you all sort it out!

MTA: Perhaps it was the fact that you didn't speak to them in person first, but published it in your "newsletter"?! Wouldn't it have been easier to simply tackle them about it?

Yes exactly - but equally YO should have gone to THEM if YO had a suspicion/problem?

(Sorry, speaking as someone who is leaving a yard where nothing is tackled, but instead communicated via yard whiteboard - does my nut in!!! :) )

I had spoken to them, asked them several times, and have been very calm and quiet, I never published names in the news letter, deliberately. And to be honest, how hard is it for a livery to simply mark down on a white board when they take hay. If they have a problem, they need to come to me, I have not got the skill of telepathy and I have 16 horses and liveries to keep happy, they only have one horse to look after. I will not keep friendships with people who badmouth me - that is not a friend. That is actually very destructive, both to me and to my business. And with friends like that who needs enemies.

There are fab liveries out there so why keep the bad ones?

There is a livery on our yard who constantly gossips and it completely ruins the atmosphere.
People just dont appreciate what they have.

This actually happened to me  got a phone call from friend saying that my stable wall was falling down and that she had moved him to a diff stable!!! Got to the yard to find one of the walls leaning half way into my stable  if it had of fallin any more my poor boy would have been tatey bread!!! YO wasnt to bothered mind u!!

well by the sounds of it i would love ot move to your livery yard! with the prefect stabls and paddocks, and you poo picking in the day and sending out news letters?!
i only see my YO every 4 weeks as she comes to collect the livery :/
would happily move to your yard :) xx

Perhaps you are not as approachable as you think you are.

Perhaps they know they would be wasting their breath having a discussion with you about what they were unhappy about.

Perhaps they knew you were the type of YO to show them the gate over something petty.

People have a moan sometimes, at least they didn't do it on an open forum, lol.

If OP has clearly stated that upon taking a bale of hay it must be marked down for your horse, and the livery has 'forgotten' on several occasions, and OP has tried some gentle reminders, than it is a simple case of theft  friends or no friends. I would have thought if there was a financial issue they should have spoken up in private. Lots of us on here are liveries how would you feel about someone using your hay that you had payed for without you permission

I think you have over reacted and are behaving in an unprofessional manner. Can you not see the ironic nature of this post let alone telling them to leave because they talked about you?

Gosh! You're very generous to Poo Pick for your liveries! I'm a YO and whilst I only offer DIY I certainly wouldn't poo pick for them, that's their joy.

Some people are never happy no matter who you do for them and its such a shame you had this experience coz if there's discontent in a yard it will fester and the only way to deal with it is to get rid PDQ and better luck next time.
