Aaaargh!! Hoof boot rub, help please?

Unfortunately they didn't work. Too thick for the size twos that fit but he hated being back in the threes and wouldn't stride out in them. I took them off part way home and he was tons better. And even in the bigger boots there seemed to be new rubbing.

Thanks to everyone who has made suggestions but i can't buy two of each 🤪 I've now ordered Renegade Vipers after looking at all the possibilities and believing they are the most likely to suit us both.

I'll let you know what the result is.

Good call, renegades rock! (Think I'm super lucky, bought a pair 10 years ago before they were even sold in UK, bought them from US, they fitted his little round feet perfectly and I’ve never needed a different set!)

Do they fit round feet well? I really like the vipers but someone advised me that they wouldn't fit little mare's round feet even though the size guide suggested they would, so I didn't get them in the end

Ten years with one pair, BBP?!?! Wow, they must be good.
In fairness the pony has really good feet so it’s not like I’ve used them daily. I’ve changed the wire once at about year 7 and bought a second set exactly the same at year 8 as I thought they were splitting a bit and might die on me, but they are still going!

I’ve got the originals not vipers but they seem to fit round feet well (certainly my pony’s). They are just the right size that they fit both at the start and end of trim cycle, but he doesn’t grow a lot of foot. My sister has vipers for hers but her horses feet aren’t as tough and he grows a lot of foot so grows out of them by end of the trim cycle.

If the renegades has any down side at all it would be that you can’t really fit pads to them as they are open at the back vs say a Cavallo which is a closed boot and easy to pad.

They do a massive range of sizes and widths now DD. Muffin has round feet, so I'm hoping.

Try using a fifty denier pop sock

I think it's the boots, G. The threes are too big but the twos are gripping like a vice round the back of the collar.

They were fine, I think he must be growing a stronger, taller heel, which I guess is good news on everything but my purse!

I never had any luck with boots that came up high, fortunately my Scoots work well.

Renegades arrived yesterday and I'm very impressed with the engineering. Muffin was not impressed with the rustling plastic bag I wanted to put his foot in to keep it clean while I tested them for size 😆. They fit as if they were made to measure and go nowehere near where he rubs. Fingers crossed we have a solution. Anyone want to buy a pair of size two Cavallo trek, hardly worn?

I think the design of Cavellos changed at some point and the new ones are a bitch for rubbing and just seemed horribly tight over the heel bulb but too big on the sole. Had a similar sizing problem with The Beast and she ended up falling over in them. I wouldn't use Cavellos again now sadly as I thought they were great before.

If I was after boots again I'd look at Renegades or Scoots. But Beast wouldn't fit into either of them!

Fingers crossed you find a solution, ycbm... at least with mid-sized feet you have options!

Oh that's bad news LL 😁. I really wanted orange or red ones but could only get black quickly. If they wore out earlier I could have red sooner 🤣.

Nooooooooo!

Tried to do up the straps on the renegades and the wire is way, way too long and they won't fasten properly even though the foot fits perfectly.

I have hacked him out today in his smaller cavallos with thin nylon mens socks on and I think they worked OK, I'll know for sure tomorrow.

Renegades going back :(

You do have to set the Renegades up and it can be quite fiddly but once perfected they won't give you another moment of trouble. I have all Arizona Copper on the front and Copper and Black on the back so I know which feet they go on 🤣

It can be fiddly has to be the understatement of the hoof boot year 🤣. Not surprised about the potential divorce citation, Paddy 😭

I wanted coloured ones but there's a wait for them. I'm jealous now, LL

I haven't managed to hack in them yet because there was a vintage vehicle rally going past today, but I am seriously impressed with these renegades. Tricky to fit the first one, simple to do the second once you know how. The way they are made, nothing that touches the horse moves. It's very difficult to see how they could rub. So easy to get on and off as well. I hope to report on using them soon.

Got out in the Renegades at last! I loved them and so did he. He's probably never been more forward and swinging on a hack. He has gone up a whole level in strength recently, but I'm sure the boots were part of how happily he was striding out today 🌞

That's great. I have Scoots on mine which work well for him but I've always fancied the Renegades though I've been put off by the new price and never found any second hand in the right size. Maybe one time I'll get some.

I love the Renegades now I've used them a few times. Love them!

So, having spent £200 on boots I love, today he gets out of the lorry at our training place and stomps across a terrible stone carpark without noticing a single stone!

I don't know whether to be thrilled about the progress he's made with his feet or spit feathers about spending all that money under a month ago 😂 !!

I don't use my boots a lot but on the occasions we have several days nice weather together and I make the most of it by upping the miles we do out on the roads a few days running I'm glad of them.
