its now 4.55 am and I am wide awake because one of my liveries decided to text me at 4am to check whether her horse was ok. I am lying here now listening to torrential rain and gailforce wind knowing that yet again I will have to leave horses in as the owners don't like them out in the rain and wind. And the one who does like hers out has the horse from hell to deal with as soon as we get a tiny amount of weather and I am the one who has to fight with it in this weather. it is costing me a fortune in bedding and taking me hours extra every day simply because I have to hold everything down to stop the wind removing it and the rain soaks everything. I have had enough now. Please can we have some snow and frost.

I feel your pain - if im at work the turbulance is horrendous in this weather and i have passenger puke to deal with.

Today, on a day off, i have youngster backing to do in an OUTDOOR school in this weather.

As for your livery, get your own back and call her tomorrow morning at 3am to 'check the arrangements with her horse' or is that just plain me?

It's dreadful...been blowing a gale and pouring all night. Enough already!

I can't wait to get back up the yard and go to fork my muck up onto the muckheap and get mouthfuls, facefuls and hairfuls of it blown straight back again! Wonder what it will be today...just some shavings or old haylage or is the wind strong enough for some actual manure to lift off and splat me on my forehead?!

Yup bring on the minus temperatures I'm ready now...

Is it me or is that totally unacceptable? I can't believe that a livery would text you at that time in the morning?!?are you suppose to be up and about checking their horses at that time? I would like to know what you have said to her (I know what I would have said!!)

I feel your pain with keeping the horses in and the extra money that it costs - I have 5 horses in, it costs a fortune in extra hay and shavings, I'm sure the horses would be ok outside for a while but I can't cope with the mud and being soaked several times a day - why do we do it???

If its any comfort at all I was talking to YO last night (is also a farmer) and he was checking his 'rain' records. According to him November is always the wettest month of the year - so we only have a week to go then hopefully we will get colder drier weather.

ETA - in the summer in the pouring rain one of the liveries cam up to the yard at 1am to put her horses in the stables so they were dry for her to ride in the morning. They woke me up - I thought the horses were being stolen! - so the YO reminded them of the yard rules - ie no one on site unless it is an emergency after 10pm or by arrangement. When they argued back he told them to leave.

I do hope it is going to dry out or freeze (I never thought I would be saying that!) soon.

I just can't believe people are so rude as to come up or even phone in the middle of the night!

My full liveries (I only have 2) always call or text me before they come here, I couldn't cope with people wondering my yard/home around all hours of the day or night!

I just ignored it!!! But it was too late really as it had woken me up. She is a part livery and she texted to say her bed was a bit damp when she did it yesterday. And as she is part livery she did it saturday too - and it wasn't as wet as it was on Sunday. Barmy, what am I supposed to do. and to be honest my own 4 horses have rather damp beds as has every other horse at the moment, its caused by rain being blown in to stables in the gale force wind. Live with it - at least they are safe and relatively dry - not under 12 ft of water like some people.
