Have been looking up all sort of different joint supplements this afternoon and am still no further in choosing one
crazy.gif
. I just want one to help my horses fetlocks and stifle area mainly. He has windgalls and had some abnormalities in his stifle area which has now healed
wink.gif
But prevention is better then cure so am on the hunt for a new supplement

Now after doing a good bit of research I think I need something with high pure Glucosamine levels, MSM and am not sure about the chondriton bit as this does not seem te be proven to absorb in horses.

Has anybody used the Riaflex Range?? Seems good value or what about Horse First My Joints? I use their Hoof First which is absolutely fantastic!! There are just soooo many to choose from but I want something that works and a lot of them seem to have xtra ingredients which have not really been proven to work

I am currently using Aviform Suppleasze Gold but have not really seen any difference

Any suggestions anyone

I use Cortaflex on my wb, quite expensive but stopped his neck clicking.
On my old lad (30) who has artritis in his hocks I use Codlivine with joint supplement and also Maxaflex. The Codlivine is really just a general supplement but the Maxaflex seems to make a real difference.
Afraid I have no idea what is in them but if you google them you'll get the info.

Read the labels. You need at least 10g glucosamine hydrochloride (not sulphate) per day for a 500kg horse, any less and you are wasting your money. Personally i dont rate cortaflex, the active ingredients are a tiny %. you pay alot of money for a filler and marketing

I use ExtraFlex HA and it seems good but then you can never tell if its that or other things that you do which keep your horse healthy. Was talking to the vet today and he said the only really important thing was how much glucosamine there was in it.

Have been wondering about them, They seem very reasonable in price too!! Think I have to do the trail and error but only with products high in pure glucosamine!!

Yes there are a lot of products out there with just fillers and other unproven rubbish. A lot of them are very vague with quantities on their labels too!! I did read an article about minimum dosage of 10 gr Glucosamine Hydrochloride, but it also recommended high MSM. Would it be useful to feed just pure Glucosamine and pure MSM??

Which Cortaflex do you use? I have used the normal one in the past and the HA but not sure whether the HA really works??

Just the normal Cortaflex as using it for 2 horses. Can't afford to pay anymore. lol

Contact NAF - they are the very best - and have a chatter.
I ran a couple of old 'chasers on their MSM for a quite a few hunting seasons - it does exactly what it says on the tin.

look into grandmeadows especially the mega flex it is fab stuff. On the website there are also some good articles on choosing supplements.

When I asked my vet he stated the same as what I've read on the net that there is no evidence to suggest that joint supplements have any preventative properties at all, he told me you are better off waiting until you get a problem and crossing that bridge when you get there, so before you spend over £1 per day on a supplement which may not be doing anything anyway why don't you ask your vet???

Sorry that may not be what you wanted to hear....

Hi - have a look at boswellia root as well.

Just stopped using the suppleaze having seen no improvement - thought i'd give this a try whilst trudging through the millions of other brands recommended

I'm dealing with mild boney changes in spine and a old sacrolillic joint injury - I'm starting to see some improvement - although there have also been major management changes...
