Please, anyone.....?

I have a ten year old greyhound, a Jrt and the Jrt's male puppy. The flipping @&@@&!!! Grey is marking in the house every day and the sheer volume of an average greyhound pee is not funny!!!!!!

And he walks about while he is doing it!

Caught him mid flow yesterday and he just walked off piddling all over my wooden floor. Did it again just now. He isn't short of walks or attention or indeed anything and tbh he has done this occasionally before but this is every day.

He also lost his greyhound buddy a few weeks ago and we have had. Litter of pups in the house so he has been under a bit of stress but enough of the dirty protest already!

Any advice anyone?

I am of course cleaning as thoroughly as I can though he will happily cock his leg Nywhere it seems so not sure if it scent driven even. He is an ex racer but we have had him five years so....

Not sure what to do except buy more mops.

Pop him to the vets, it may be stress and it may also be a urinary infection or onset of incontinence because of his age, try not to be too angry with him. As this will not help if it is stress related.

Hi
Thank you for the suggestion. He has an appointment already for fri but I suspect it is behavioural since, as a result of him losing his 'sister' and the pups all now going to new homes (including the girl I was also going to keep but friend saw and wanted), we have opened up parts of the house to him that he hasn't had access to since my son was born.

He isn't doing it in anywhere he had regular access to up until ten days ago or so. So I'm wondering if in fact he is just trying to claim the rest of the house as his in competition with the male puppy as before he was the only male?

Does that even sound remotely likely?

Still wouldn't know what to do about it though.

STOP the access to these areas, it could certainly be that new smells are encouraging him to mark the new areas, he should atleast never be in the areas without you being present, you cannot correct him (verbally) or guide him (take him by the collar asoon as he lifts the leg or looks like he is about to pee and march/guide him on out to the garden area if you where not there to see it.

I think we will have to be a bit more on the ball with him as you say. He is a super old chap and apart from this has never put a foot wrong since we got him so it is up to us to try and deal with it.

The layout of our house doesn't help observation sadly and we have allowed him wider access so he isn't alone as he has never been on his own.

Aren't dogs fun? Litter of pups all gone bar my keeper and big dog starts peeing instead!

Honestly I think I may as well just go to bed in my wellies nowadays. With mop and bucket under my pillow.....
