He is on Farriers Formula which I must admit has only been on for 6 months, but it is costing me a fortune. He needs something though, he has dry brittle feet that are crumbling at the bottom. I am going to get some Kevin Bacon dressing but need a supplement that is cheaper but as effective as Farriers formula.

Can anyone suggest ???

am needing to do a bank job at this rate with FF

p.s. because he lives out and the grass if through he is getting no feed as such, he gets a handful of chaff and a handful of woodcray mix, and only because of his FF. When I say handful, I mean a handful !!!!

xx
Mnay Thanks

Are his feet quite long?? Cos when my horses feet were long they used to break and go really brittle, then I changed farriers and the new one trimmed his feet right back and they were a lot better!
Although I firmly believe Effol is one of the best products i've used on feet! But only my opinion!

I used Kevin Bacon's on my last horse - it's really great for feet that tend to crack when they get dry.

Tried keratex but that didn't seem to do much.

I use Naf Biotin, Kevin Bacon dressing and Naf Seaweed. My horses hooves improved no end. His feet kept cracking before and he kept pulling shoes off. Now it's alot better - touch wood!!

try dodson and horrel firm foot seemed to work better than the farriers formula!

another vote for kevin bacons here

Friend always used to feed farriers formula changed onto the global herbs one (cant remember what its called ) and thinks it is just as good and is loads cheaper, dengie are doing a laminitus trust approved feed called healthy hooves which sounds very good as well. Will give the kevin bacon a definate thumbs up as well think its great stuff.

There is a company around (used to be called horsehealth) that I used to buy stuff from for an ex racer with terrible feet. I used their supplement and their hoof cream plus cornucresin (sp) daily. It worked fab. I'll try and find the company and PM you the details.

We get stuff called equine complete and since they've been on it (its an allround thing) had brilliant feet

We used biotin and seaweed when the old girls feet were awful (about 20 years ago!) and then changed to ordinary wheatgerm and seaweed cos it was cheaper, her feet grew and she stopped loosing shoes.

One of the best things you can do is soak your horses feet in water when they are like this. If they won't stand still long enough for this, some people throw lots of buckets of water down by the water trough so the horses naturally get their feet wet.
