AArgh, my dog just ate a whole packet of dried fruit

Hi guys, just thought I'd pick your brains before I panic - my greyhound managed to eat a whole bag of dried fruit mix while I was out - will she be ok? What can I expect?

Ring the vet for advice - they wont charge you for the call

Doncha just love greyhounds, luckily my two are not the eat-anything type (unless it is small, furry and runs fast)

They're shut but is it important enough to ring the emergency vet?

I dread to think of the things ours have scoffed over the years

including a whole black bin bag full of chocs wrapped for christmas gifts(the wrapping paper made the poo...colourfull

) without problems.

Give your vet a ring,the call is free and should put your mind at rest

Yep I wouldnt hesitate to ring just to put your mind at rest

Have a horrible feeling that diarrhoea may be the consequence however - good luck

If nothing else put newspaper down tonight- you may find that things move rather swiftly along

What sort of fruit? Raisins are a big no no but apricots will just cause the trots.

Thanks, I'm waiting for a call back from the vet and will keep you posted. I'm looking forward to being woken up at regular intervals in the night to let her out! Or to a wonderful smell!

Definitely some raisins, also hazlenuts, coconut, banana and papaya. It's the raisins I'm worried about

Vet said not to panic, she's large enough that it won't do her too much harm. But she will almost certinaly have the runs and gas - lovely!

Well I glad it isnt too serious (didnt think it would be, but wasnt 100% sure so would have checked with the vet too!) but you do have my sympathy tonight

Lots of air fresheners, and a mop and bucket and plenty of disinfectant I think

PS - when she is better we need pics, I love greyhounds

My spaniel once ate a whole fruit cake made by my mother in law that was so densely packed with dried fruit it weighed more than a house brick. I didn't know at that time that apparently just a few raisins can kill. Thankfully ignorance was bliss or I would have been in a total panic. I can forewarn you though that what comes out the other end is not pretty. My dog was also very lethargic and ill for 2 days, but it's now just a distant memory. We are more careful with fruit cake now though.

i would let said dog outside late and get up extra early!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! could be very messy and smelly! but hey thats why we have them! (i think?)

Well no accidents last night and poo is fairly firm, just peppered with lots of nuts that she clearly can't digest! Obviously my dustbin dog has a stomach lined with lead!
