I am going to strangle my other half.

My dogs are fear aggressive and we're not experienced dog owners, sob story from a friend or not, a 7yo Akita is NOT for us and I'm NOT having one in my house!

However, if anyone does know of someone who is looking for an older Akita do give me a shout.

(Disclaimer....I am in a foul mood and aware I'm over reacting. OH is sensible and will actually do the right thing he just thinks highly of the chap involved and just wants to help him out so has just put the idea out there.)

Oh and I have suggested the breed rescue as first point of call.

They're just seriously considering it at the moment, nothing definitive as yet. They got her when the eldest two children where little and as per the breed she's amazing but protective of them but they've had another baby and they're worried about how she'll be with him although she's shown zero signs of being anything but normal with him so far and she's never unsupervised with the kids etc. but being as protective of the eldest as she is it's a concern so they're thinking about what to do but the kids come first.

Carefull... I said something similar about akitas and staffs recently and was pounced on :p

Lol......let them pounce :p ;) I'm still not bringing a dog of that size into my family when I have two dogs who are scared of bigger dogs. Only way I'll have another dog with mine is as a puppy, rescue or brought, so that they can establish who's boss without drama same as I did when I got a second dog.

Think you're being sensible, Akita's are not for inexperienced dog handlers they are far too clever, this is where they end up ruling the roost and then becoming dominant and then you hear the horror stories.
I think they are lovely dogs, but certainly don't have the time one would need (also don't think the ridgie would be impressed either)
